What Not to Eat Before You Fly

Matthew Klint Posted onOctober 7, 2010 2 Comments

Continuing on my food theme today, ABC put out a list of items to avoid before flying.

No. 1: McDonald’s Extra Value Meal*

*They clarified: "Okay, so we’re using Mickey D’s as the embodiment of greasy, artery-clogging fast-food joints typically found in airports."

No. 2: The Gas Giants

"…Oninons, cauliflower, cabbage, baked beans — can make you feel like an over-filled balloon."

No. 3: Alcohol

"Consuming alcohol before or during a flight should be avoided — and it can actually contribute to passengers having trouble falling back asleep once they awaken."

No. 4: Carbonated Beverages

"You need to be at your peak, and carbonated beverages are thought to contribute to bloating and cramping."

No. 5: Everything

"In a study published in the Journal of Science in 2008, researchers suggested that fasting for about 16 hours before a long flight might actually help to fend off jet lag."

Everything? Sure, let’s all fast and save room for the free food onboard. Oh wait…
