While the American Airlines Admirals Club at Los Angeles International Airport has scaled back amenities during the pandemic, you can still enjoy a quiet place to relax and decent snack prior to your flight.

Location + Hours + Access

The lounge is located in Terminal 4 near gate 40. It is open daily from 4:30am to 1:00am. There are many ways to access the lounge, including:

  • AAdvantage Executive Platinum, Platinum Pro and Platinum members traveling internationally
  • oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members
  • Qualifying first and business class passengers
    • international
    • LAX – JFK
    • LAX – MIA (only on Boeing 777-300 flights)
  • Membership
  • Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard
  • One day pass holders ($59)
  • Military

Even with membership, you must be traveling on an American Airlines, Alaska, or oneworld flight in order to enter.

Pandemic Precautions

After checking in downstairs, you will head upstairs and be greeted by a lounge agent, who will escort you to your seat…there is no self-seating right now. The lounge is doing a great job in promoting distancing, so don’t be concerned about sitting directly next to a stranger.

Masks are required at all times except for eating and drinking.

All food is individually packaged and only disposable plate, bowls, cups, glasses, and utensils are in use.

Seating

As I mentioned above, you’ll be seated by lounge staff. The lounge is divided into two seating area separated by a bar in the middle. The main area included chairs and floor-to-ceiling windows with great views of the tarmac.

Around the corner from the bar is a “quiet area” that includes a TV room (that’s a bit ironic) adjacent to it. With the exception of one guy watching college sports, this entire wing of the lounge was empty.

Food + Drink

Expect modified food and drink during the pandemic. Breakfast selections included:

  • yogurt
  • cereal
  • hard boiled eggs
  • fruit
  • oatmeal
  • muffins
  • bagels

Around 11:00am, the transition to lunch occurred. Lunch selections included:

  • cubed cheddar cheese
  • pasta salad
  • hummus
  • carrots

In the bar area, whole fruit, savory and sweet snacks, and desserts like cookies and jelly beans were available.

You an also purchase meals if you are looking for something more substantial. Selections included sandwiches, salads, and chicken nuggets.

On the way out, you are encouraged to take a little snack box for your flight or for the road.

The full bar is also open with a selection of beer, wine, and spirits available for purchase.

Restrooms + Showers

Restrooms and showers are available. Some lounges have suspended shower use during the pandemic, but showers are still available in this lounge.

CONCLUSION

This is currently the only AA lounge (and only oneworld lounge) open at LAX. American has two additional Admirals Club at LAX but both are closed, as it the oneworld business and Qantas First Class lounges in the nearby Bradley Terminal. While not exactly luxurious, this lounge is appreciated versus no lounge at all.

Not much, in this case. I deliberately waited for a lull to take these pictures. The lounge was fairly filled during my ~2hour visit.

I fly through PHX Skyharbor airport frequently and the Admirals clubs are never open. When can we expect those to return back to full service?

Is the lounge will be opened in LAX on this month September 2021? If so, which terminal? I’ll be flying at the end of this month and will be using my admiral pass for few hours before my connecting flight to DC.
    Thank you,
    Ms. Henny

While not surprising, it is sad to see the growing list of carriers retiring this superjumbo jet. On Malaysia Airlines, I flew the #A380 once from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to London (LHR) and had the entire first class cabin to myself (full review on the blog). It was a beautiful flight that I will always remember.
