Air Europa 787 Business Class is Underrated

Matthew Klint Posted onSeptember 2, 2017November 14, 2023 4 Comments

While I had higher hopes for Air Europa than for Aerolineas Argentinas, they were still quite measured. Not only did Air Europa’s 787 in business class beat expectations, it was actually a very competitive product and enjoyable ride.

Air Europa uses a business class seat like Royal Air Maroc but without the odd “dual level” seating. Thus, in the sleeping position the seats becomes more like Lufthansa Business Class with your feet uncomfortably close to your neighbor’s.

That wasn’t a problem on this flight, though, because the seat next to me stayed open for the entire flight.

Here’s a look at the cabin and the business class seat–

Prior to pushback an ad for Air Europa was shown that suggested an elegant meal service set up including cast-iron pots for the breakfast. That wasn’t the case on my flight, but the meal service display still was not bad.

Meal service began with La Meriendas or snacks. A Charcuterie plate headlined the first course, but it also included potato chips, almonds, and crackers.

Next up came a tray containing canapés, an odd salad, and gazpacho. Everything was tasty.

I ordered steak for the main course. It wasn’t bad, but well done. I appreciated that it was covered in gorgonzola cheese and it came with two starches: mashed sweet potatoes and roasted rosemary potatoes.

Dinner finished with a cheese plate, espresso, and orange tart.

The IFE contained a generous selection of English movies and wi-fi was available for purchase, though charged by the MB.

Bedding was excellent: a plush pillow and lightweight, oversized blanket.

Service was excellent prior to takeoff and during the meal services, with the FAs very warm and engaging. Between meals, it was necessary to ring your call button: FAs did not make regular rounds throughout the cabin.

CONCLUSION

I’ll have more details in my full trip report and a separate post comparing Iberia and Air Europa in business class. The bottom line, however, is that the Air Europa 787 offers a competitive soft and hard product and is worthy of consideration.

Air Europa seems like a very unknown or unconsidered airline but looks like a pretty good product. They seem to fly to quite a few South American destinations not usually served by other European airlines from MAD. I am assuming you flew EZE-MAD, how full was the plane?

Plane was only about half full.

Looks like what you referred to espresso is actually a brewed coffee with hot milk. I’m surprised no tortilla espanola was offered for breakfast.

      That would have been wonderful.

Actually, the coffee was espresso, but I asked for a cappuccino. The FA said “she would try” and actually did a fair job at trying to foam some milk.
