Why Alaska Airlines Objected To A Local Fashion Show

Alaska Airlines is happy after a Juneau fashion show changed the theme name of its upcoming event.

Each year, the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council stages a fashion show in the Alaska capital of Juneau. Alaska Airlines is a sponsor of the event and was not pleased when the 2019 theme was announced: Wearable Art 2019: Turbulence.

Turbulence, of course, is not something that passengers positively associate with airlines. Thus, Alaska Airlines suggested a last-minute change to the program title.

Nancy DeCherney, Executive Director for Juneau Arts & Humanities Council, told the Juneau Empire:

It came to our attention that turbulence perhaps isn’t positive when connected to an airplane. We thought about what we could do to ameliorate the situation.

In consultation with Alaska Airlines, the name was changed to Wearable Art 2019: Tailwinds.

DeCherney continued:

Alaska Airlines felt like it was positive, all our board members thought it was positive. Tailwind is a very positive thing when you’re flying, and it’s also a very uplifting thing,” DeCherney added. “Frankly, I’m tired of all the turbulence.

Frankly, I’m tired of all of the flatulence over this total non-issue.

An Alaska spokesperson stated:

From our side of the house, tailwinds are much more favorable than turbulence.

So noted.

CONCLUSION

The change came per the “suggestion’ of Alaska Airlines. But the posters and flyers were already printed…I wonder how much pressure Alaska actually put on the Juneau Arts & Humanities Council?

Especially when one of the two deadly AS crashes was them plowing into a mountain on approach into JNU.
