Review: Aloft Seattle Sea-Tac Airport (Practical SEA Airport Hotel)

The Aloft Seattle Sea-Tac Airport worked out nicely for my late arrival into SEA, with a free shuttle that operates around the clock and a clean and comfortable room. It’s not fancy, but it does the job.

Aloft Seattle Sea-Tac Airport Review

My hotel was paid for by Alaska Airlines as part of the livery unveil in Seattle, but the nightly rate was $103 plus tax. I do think if I was chasing Hyatt status aggressively, I would have made the trip into the city, but part of the joy of being a free agent this year is that I can stay where is most convenient.

Shuttle

I called the hotel when I landed (206-241-0260) to let them know I was a few minutes from the curb, but the shuttle was already there! I had no wait and the drive to the hotel took five minutes. The shuttle operates on request between noon at 3:00 am, so whether you are going to the airport or to the hotel, just call the hotel and a driver will be dispatched. Between 3:00 am and noon, it leaves the hotel on the hour and on the half.

Room

I quickly checked in and was proactively offered a 2:00 pm checkout for being a Marriott Bonvoy Gold…I thought it was “based on availability” only, but I said “yes, please” and ended up taking full advantage of it.

My room, 227, was small but clean. The bed took up most of the room, with built-in desks under each window and a bench between them. Plenty of power plugs on each side of the bed and at the desk.

The bathroom was very small with a sink and a shower and toilet in a separate room.

The closet (behind the sink in the bathroom) mentioned an ironing board located “on the other side of the bed inside the cabinet,” but I found no cabinet or ironing board! (and yes, I would have ironed my shirt).

The closet also had a shelf with a coffee maker…a true insult in the land of great coffee we call Seattle.

Free Coffee + Tea In Lobby

Speaking of Coffee, I did appreciate that the hotel offered free coffee and tea in the morning outside the elevators in the lobby.

Unfortunately, I can only describe the coffee as wet and warm…it had no flavor.

Dining

I’ve never stayed at an Aloft before, but apparently, the “Re:fuel” concept is a chain thing? The breakfast area included various grab-and-go items plus a menu of hot items you could order, like waffles, oatmeal, egg white bites, breakfast sandwiches/wraps, cinnamon rolls, and bagels. I skipped breakfast…

On the other side of the lobby, WXYZ Bar offers alcoholic beverages and light food daily from 5:00 pm to midnight.

Re:mix Lounge (Gaming Area)

Next to the bar was a gaming area with a pool table (or maybe billiards?), some board games, backgammon boards, and some vintage 80s arcade video games.

Fitness Center

The 24/7 hotel gym includes LifeFitness equipment (four treadmills, three bikes, free weights, and an all-in-one strength training machine).

Sadly, the hotel has no pool, suana, steam room, or whirpool.

Business Center

Near the front desk, a computer and printer are available…you never know!

CONCLUSION

For it’s price point, this hotel offered good value and I appreicated the timely shuttle, comfortable guest room, and functional gym. This is a very convinente hotel after a very late flight or if you have a very early flight from SEA.

The major flaw that I see of the room is that it is difficult to wash your anus. A hand held shower head or a bathtub would be ways to remedy that flaw.

I wonder Matthew got Atmos points if Alaska provided the flight gratis?

        Free is better than points!

I once got a free trip to do a story. It was on British Airways, lie flat, and hotel at The Edition in London.

Pruritis ani is one of the biggest, yet least-discussed problems of the modern traveler.

Stayed there a few years ago with the family (wife and 2 tweens) – never again. Not a good place to stay with a family. Maybe a young couple or solo traveler.

Let’s be honest, any negative reviews would potentially hurt your future comps from airlines.

I’m not saying you are biased but writing a review about a comped visit is beneath you Mr Klint, surprised you even did it.

    Why?

You are welcome to evaluate the hotel as you see fit. I stand by my review…it was exactly what I needed for a late arrival and early departure to the meeting.

      Matthew disclosed conflicts of interest.

He took photos, which makes a helpful review. The photos are better than the usual photo in hotel websites. We can now see that the shower doesn’t allow good washing of the anus (see 1st comment).

He mentioned things, like the airport shuttle being 24 hours. That is important. I was at an airport where the hotel shuttle ran only until midnight but my flight was scheduled to arrive at 11:30 pm. I stayed at a different hotel as a result.

I stayed here about 18 months ago to use up a free night certificate. Perfectly acceptable airport hotel, staff were friendly. If I didn’t have to use up the certificate I would probably aim for the Hilton since it is walkable to/from the airport. What irritates me is that Hyatt has no property near the airport at SEA.

You got the Marla Gibbs room. Hope you were OK later, as I hear it would have been impossible for you to full clean yourself.

I’m missing the reference! Is it from the Jeffersons?

It was Ms. Gibbs’s show after The Jeffersons. I ‘m surprised you don’t remrmber from your youth as it was only 30 years ago—in my mind! It was a 1985 -90.

In case someone is traveling with a pet under 40 pounds, this hotel does not charge a fee. My cousin will stay here occasionally for an early departure with the Scotty dog.

A $103 aloft? I feel like Alaska could have done better. I’ve stayed in that hotel, it’s perfectly fine, but this just seems like a weird place for them to cut corners.

If I were a shareholder (probably in one of my ETFs), I would love that they use a less-expensive, good-enough place. Cutting corners is, in my mind, a negative. Get good value for money should be respected.

A highly recommended 3* spot after a long travel day… On the other hand, a complimentary breakfast service needs to start asap!
