A man faces multiple criminal charges after suffering a panic attack on an American Airlines flight, threatening a flight attendant, then violently attacking ground staff as he was led off the aircraft.
After Threat Leads To Flight Ejection, Man Attacks American Airlines Staff in Miami
Let’s start with an important travel tip: never place your medication, particularly essential medication, in your checked baggage. 29-year-old Bruno Luke Machiavelo was flying from Miami (MIA) to New York LaGuardia (LGA) on November 27, 2023 on American Airlines and had checked a bag.
Machiavelo purportedly suffers from panic attacks, but has medication that can help him regulate this. After boarding the flight, he felt a panic attack coming on. But his medication was not within reach because he had placed it in his large checked bag.
He asked a flight attendant if it could be retrieved and was told no. He then purportedly said this was a huge problem and that he “took planes down with his panic attacks in the past.”
The flight crew elected to have him removed from the flight. A manager came onboard to remove him and Machiavelo responded by screaming then pushing the manager away from him. As he stepped off the plane, he attacked the manager again, punching her and hurling her to the floor on the jetbridge between the plane and the terminal gate. She stuck her head.
The captain purportedly told the flight:
“We have had an incident on our plane. We were trying to eject a deranged man when he got angry and struck our agent and she is passed out. It is very serious. She is currently on the floor.”
He also added that the jet bridge was covered in a “significant amount” of blood.
Per Miami-Dade Police, the American Airlines manager sustained “permanent” scarring to her face. The injuries were so serious the manager was hospitalized.
After stepping off the jet bridge, Machiavelo attacked a gate agent before being subdued by passengers and held on the ground kicking and screaming until police arrived to arrest him.
Machiavelo was arrested and booked on five counts, including:
- aggravated battery
- battery
- disorderly conduct
- resisting arrest
CONCLUSION
Again, you cannot leave medication in your checked baggage which is essential, as seems to be the case here. Maybe the panic attacks truly meant Machiavelo lost all cognition of what he was doing, but an American Airlines manager was beaten so badly she was hospitalized and now has permanent scarring.

This wasn’t a panic attack. The pilot correctly called him deranged. I pray the manager has a quick and total recovery.
Moreover, not only keep your medications with you, but remember to take them!
If he’s done it before then why the hell isn’t he on no-fly list?
No excuse for being assaultive.

Psychiatric diagnosis is frequently abused, and misused as an excuse.
There might be more to this story.
I find it odd that someone who has violent unexpected violent outbursts requiring medication not only doesn’t carry that medication with them all the time, but is also allowed to travel across the country without any supervision.
The manager need to file a lawsuit for assault, pain and suffering, disfigurement.

The rest is an exercise in not being a STUPID CRAZY GUY. It has nothing to do with airplanes, GAs, FAs, and cops. If you’re on drugs OR are prescribed them then FUCKING TAKE THEM.
What a waste of everyone’s time.
An international no-fly list for these individuals is a necessity.
Reason #352 why I haven’t flown in 10 years. People are crazy all over and thr last place I want to be stuck with one, is at 35,000 feet in a tube. Flying used to be so much better than this.
This is a strange way to write this article. I suffer from panic attacks and there is no association between those and violence, medicated or not so hmmm…maybe some simple research on this would have helped.
The assault was also against every other person on the plane. Lifetime international ban, mandatory facial “DERANGED” tattoo and loss of the right hand would be a good starting point. And lots of free upgrades for the other victims on the plane, American is culpable as hell here.
