A Canadian citizen faces six moths in prison after pleading guilty to groping an American Airlines flight attendant last August.
Man Jailed For Six Months After Admitting To Groping American Airlines Flight Attendant
The incident took place on American Airlines flight AA1723 from Cancun (CUN) to Miami (MIA) on August 6, 2021. The aggressor was apparently asleep while flight attendants performed their service, so a flight attendant left snacks in his lap.
Moments later, however, she felt a hand “grip the bottom of her thigh and move upwards towards the lower portion of her buttocks before rubbing firmly from side to side.”
Startled, the flight attendant turned around and reprimanded the passenger, 50-year-old Enio Socorro Zayas. Other passengers immediately stood up, having witnessed the groping.
Law enforcement met the aircraft in Miami and Zayas was taken into custody.
Zayas pleaded guilty to one count of assault in October, a plea deal. This week, he was sentenced by a federal judge to six months in prison, then supervised release for an additional year.

It isn’t clear whether Zayas was intoxicated, but that hardly matters…his reprehensible conduct reminds us that it’s not the 1970s any longer and that such action should not be tolerated in a civilized society.
From having to enforce a mask mandate to dealing with with irate passengers to serving drinks and food and of course to evacuating the cabin in case of an emergency, flight attendants have many responsibilities.
Harassing them should not be another worry. We help to ensure that by holding people who accountable who do not respect boundaries and I was heartened to read that so many passengers stepped forward willing to testify as to what happened to the flight attendant at the center of this case.
CONCLUSION
A Canadian man now faces U.S. prison for up to six months (probably more like three months) for groping a flight attendant on an American Airlines flight to Miami. Hopefully his jail time and supervised release will teach him a bit of respect…
