What Food & Drinks Does Avelo Airlines Serve Onboard?

Matthew Klint Posted onApril 29, 2021November 14, 2023 9 Comments

Avelo, the new airline hubbed at Burbank – Hollywood Airport, began operations this week. What kind of food and drinks can you expect onboard Avelo Airlines?

Avelo Food & Drinks

Although Avelo Airlines is a so-called “ultra-low-cost” carrier in which almost everything beyond the seat is sold a la carte, every passenger receives a complimentary small snack on all flights.

Currently, that includes:

  • Bottle of water
  • Lorna Doone shortbread cookies
  • Wipe

a snack package on a table

a blue package on a table

a plastic bottle of water next to a bag of chips

a bottle of water and candy bars on a table

The snacks come sealed in plastic and are served by flight attendants in a basket.

a group of people wearing masks and standing in an airplane

a woman wearing a face mask and holding a basket in an airplane

For a quick flight, this is more than enough.

Avelo told Live and Let’s Fly that at some point it intends to offer snacks and drinks for purchase onboard, as other budget carriers do. Currently, it does not have the authority to serve alcohol onboard and its short flight durations on its initial routes make offering food and beverages for sale to an entire cabin rather tricky.

Avelo does not intend to ever use beverage or snack carts, deeming them a safety concern and annoyance.

CONCLUSION

Avelo’s website makes no mention of food or drink onboard. While you are permitted to bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages onboard, except a free mini bottle of water and package of cookies on your next Avelo Airlines flight.

Could be worse for sure. I remember a Southwest flight OAK-RNO where they didn’t have time to serve anything but the smallest bottle of water I ever saw. Of course, super short flight and all.

They don’t offer anything, no water or snacks. Been on multiple avelo flights on routes that any other airline does (usually for the same price, they’re charging$150 for a 3 hour flight which is not ultr Low cost)

Nope, not serving anything. At best they will give you the small bottle of water on request only, but no actual service through the cabin – be it a 1 hour flight or a 3 hour flight. I don’t buy the “flights are too short to do buy-on-board” when Spirit can make it through the aisle and do a full service on a 228-seat A231 between Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale or Baltimore and Myrtle Beach.

“accept a free mini bottle of water …” not “except”

It’s still surprising that people don’t understand the concept of low cost airlines. The idea is to cut all of the optional services from the flights to give passengers the cheapest fares. That means you pay extra for extras. In Avelo’s case they opt not to stock food and beverages to keep their operational costs low.
People want cheap tickets. This is what you get.
