Blissful Bodman-Ludwigshafen, Germany

Matthew Klint Posted onJune 4, 2022November 14, 2023 4 Comments

Bodman-Ludwigshafen is a municipality in the German state of Baden-Württemberg which sits on Lake Constance. It is one of the most beautiful parts of Germany and we enjoyed an evening stretch here on our drive back from Munich to the Basel area.

A Rest Stop In Bodman-Ludwigshafen, Germany

We left Munich around 4:00PM and drove for a few hours, opting to stop in Bodman-Ludwigshafen because of its beauty. Our first stop was DM, the German drug store chain you can always count on for clean restrooms and free diapers.

Next we stopped at a Turkish take-away restaurant for a quick dinner. Döner kebab is always delicious.

Before finishing our journey, we decided to let the kids run around so as to tire them out in hopes they would sleep during the remainder of the car ride home. It was so quiet…we ran into virtually no other people and the park and playground was empty.

You might recall Germany experienced heavy rains for weeks last summer, which caused many rivers and lakes to overflow. Konstanz (Lake Constance) was not spared and water levels submerged trees and shrubs along the banks of the lake.

Even so, it was incredibly picturesque.

This was my first time here and I had to marvel at the beauty of Germany…it’s such an underestimated nation in terms of natural beauty. I hope to return here again for longer than a rest stop. As we walked a Zeppelin (blimp) flew overhead. Next time, I would love to catch a ride on a blimp as well. It departs from Friedrichshafen, though is quite pricey at €880/per-person for a two-hour journey (with a 20% discount for kids).

CONCLUSION

The wonderful thing about Germany is that there is beauty everywhere you look. Get on the road and drive and wherever you pull off, you’ll find something pleasant. Bodman-Ludwigshafen, along Lake Constance is a particularly beautiful part of Germany and well worth an extended stop…or even a brief one like ours.

@Matthew, have you ever gone further down the lake to Friedrichshafen and visited the Dornier or Zeppelin museums? For someone like yourself who is so interested in airlines and travel, I hope you would have done so. But if not, maybe on your next trip?

I have not – something I hope to do next time.

I’m rather bummed at how expensive the Zeppelin is…that’s a lot of money for a two-hour tour. I’d frankly rather spend it on a week at a nice hotel for my family…

I figured you might rather spend it on 2 hours with Mary Magdalene.
