Breaking: Rediske Air Crash in Alaska Kills 10

When I saw the headline just a moment ago, I thought it was a joke–surely there could not be another crash just one day later. But sadly the Wall Street Journal is reporting:

LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) — The crash of an air taxi in rural Alaska killed all 10 people aboard Sunday, reports said. The de Havilland Otter seaplane crashed near Soldotna, on the Kenai Peninsula, just south of Anchorage. The National Transportation Safety Board said it was dispatching a team to investigate the incident, the Associated Press said…

Another sad day.

More from the LA Times:

ANCHORAGE — An air taxi crashed Sunday at a small Alaska airport, killing all 10 people on board and leaving the aircraft engulfed in flames before firefighters could get to it, authorities said.

The de Havilland DHC3 Otter air taxi crashed at the airport in Soldotna, a community on the Kenai Peninsula about 75 miles southwest of Anchorage…

Will Satathite, who was working Sunday at Rediske Air’s Nikiski office, confirmed to the Peninsula Clarion newspaper that the aircraft was flown by Nikiski pilot and company owner Willy Rediske with nine passengers onboard….

I’ll have thoughts on both events tomorrow.
