British Airways has teamed up with English luggage maker Globe-Trotter to offer limited-edition luggage commemorating the recently retired Boeing 747.

British Airways 747 Luggage

The white-colored luggage contains a a gold “Speedbird” insignia from the BOAC era and a “fragment” of an actual BA 747 inside the suitcase lid.

Marked with the unmistakable Speedbird insignia, the new carry-on case takes inspiration from the 747’s original livery of dark blue and white, a look that epitomises the glamorous age of luxury air travel. The white vulcanised fibreboard body will take on a pearlescent shine, as if slick from its latest escapade up in the clouds.

Only 150 suitcases were produced. The suitcase is sized to be carry-on compliant and is handmade in England. Cost? £1,935 (currently $2,649). You can buy it here.

Earlier, British Airways auctioned off two of these suitcases in an online auction to benefit Flying Start, British Airways’ global charity partnership. One bag fetched £4,400 the second sold for £4,450.

British Airways retired its 747 fleet years ahead of schedule due to the pandemic. Its last 747 flight, an aircraft painted in BOAC heritage livery, took off on December 11, 2020. Live and Let’s Fly has also reviewed that aircraft on a journey from London to Los Angeles.

CONCLUSION

My own thoughts are that the luggage is nice, but if I had an extra $2,649 I’d spend it on a Rimowa bag and use the residual to travel.

How about you? Do you plan on buying this unique piece of luggage?

If truly limited these bags will likely be fetching more in a few years. That is, if you never use it. It’s like a Birkin for the travel set.
