Brussels Airlines Returns to New York JFK

Matthew Klint Posted onDecember 29, 2011 4 Comments

It has been one decade since the Belgian flag carrier served New York City, but starting this summer Brussels Airlines, a Star Alliance member, will resume service between New York Kennedy and Brussels.

Brussels Airlines, formerly SABENA (Société Anonyme Belge d’Exploitation de la Navigation Aérienne), pulled out of the U.S. after 9/11 and has focused on its African and intra-Europe network as it weathered bankruptcy and multiple changes in leadership.

The flights will feature Brussels’ new business class seat, similar to Swiss Air’s new lie-flat, matress-adjustable seat.

    Hi Matthew,

Brussels Airlines will use an A330-300 with brand new Economy class and Business class cabin to serve the BRU-JFK route. The new C cabin will Be similar to LX C. Both Y and C will feature a new IFE too. The new cabin will be revealed to the press on Jan 10, 2012. I’ll be present at the press event and join the inaugural flight on Jun 1, 2012 (SN501 BRU-JFK)
Reports will be posted on my travel blog http://travel.bart.la

@Bart–thanks for the clarification. In that case, the seats should be splendid.

    Are you in Laos?

@Matthew Not really, I’m in Brussels, Belgium. The .la extension is being marketed as the domain for Los Angeles. I registered bart.la back in 2003 as it also matches the first two characters of my last name. 🙂
