The Coffee At Buckingham Palace…Is Not Fit For A King

Buckingham Palace Coffee

Props for the effort, but the coffee at Buckingham Palace is not fit for a king…or even a commoner.

(Not So) Great Coffee At Buckingham Palace

Earlier I outlined our tour of Buckingham Palace. As you exit the place into the garden, you can stop for a coffee or tea outside at The Garden Café.

The Garden Café
Buckingham Palace
10:00 – 19:00 (19:00 – 19:15 takeaway only) – July and August
10:00 – 18:00 (18:00 – 18:15 takeaway only) – September

I am going to make this simple: I loved the effort, but the coffee was not great. I ordered a flat white and found the coffee on the bitter side, even with frothed milk added (and any coffee connoisseur will know that a flat white should have steamed milk, not frothed milk…)

But it was nice to sit and sip coffee on a cool and rainy summer day overlooking the garden on the grounds of a historic palace.

I ordered a lunch box for each kid and you can see below that my daughter loved it but it brought my son to tears…being half German, he’s apparently not a fan of British sandwiches heavy on processed white bread. The box also came with some crisps (what we Yankees call chips), juice, and chocolate-covered raisins.

CONCLUSION

It was fun to drink coffee at Buckingham Palace, but I will skip it next time…

This will be the one place in your London articles where I make the plug for the Pret subscription. £30/mo for up to 5 barista coffees a day is amazing. They’re everywhere. I know Pret is below your standard, but your wife (and son) would enjoy it, and it pays for itself after like 3 days. It’s half off the first month (then cancel). You can even use it at Heathrow!

Wow, that’s actually a really good deal.

But you’re also correct, no Pret for me!

I went their once. They want to take physical possession of your credit card and tap it. You have no opportunity to prevent DCC. I don’t care if they have the best coffee in the world or the worst, I am not going to deal with a merchant like that. Shameful.
