Drunken Party On Delta Air Lines Flight Ends After Racial Slur

The drunkenness was bad enough. Refusing to wear a mask was even worse. But when a group of business travelers traveling on Delta decided to direct their ire toward a black flight attendant, with one uttering a vulgar and racist slur, it was removal time.

Racial Slur By Drunken Passenger On Delta Air Lines Flight Leads To Ejection

Details were shared on Twitter by a traveler on the flight, who decried a raucous atmosphere onboard with 15-20 employees from Buildertrend drunk and out of control.

Just had to de-board a flight home from Omaha due to 15-20 employees of @Buildertrend being drunk, not following any kind of on-plane rule and culminating with one of them directing a shout of ‘fucking n-word’ at a @Delta employee who asked them to put their mask on.

— Daly (@Dal_y) February 7, 2022

Buildertrend is a company that provides construction project management, specifically via software.

Delta confirmed that flight 5593, operated by Republic Airways, from Omaha (OMA) to New York LaGuardia (LGA) did return to the gate and several unruly passengers were not allowed back on:

“Delta Connection flight 5593 operated by Republic Airways from Omaha to LaGuardia on Feb. 7 returned to the gate due to unruly customers. All customers were deplaned for their safety, and the flight later continued safely to LaGuardia after the unruly customers were removed from the flight. Delta has zero tolerance for unruly behavior at our airports and on our flights as nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and flight crews. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have had for our remaining customers.”

What a mess.

Buildertrend took to Twitter to issue a short statement noting it “does not stand” by any such behavior.

@Dal_y These reports are distressing to hear and we do not stand by any such behavior. Such comments and actions do not align with our values.

— Buildertrend (@Buildertrend) February 7, 2022

I would certainly hope not…

I’m so happy that I’m not part of a company in which little men (and I’m not talking about men of small stature but of small self-discipline) feel compelled to join their “brothers” to see who can get wasted. It’s one of the most toxic business cultures and makes me so thankful I currently work for myself and have had good teams in the past, at least in that respect.

HR is going to be busy today!

CONCLUSION

For the life of me, I cannot understand what motivates people to get drunk…and then the ugly side comes out.

Delta CEO Ed Bastian recently told U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland:

“Any disruption or act of violence on our planes and at our airports warrants full and public prosecution of the offenders, with zero tolerance for any behavior that interferes with flight safety.”

Should a drunken, racist jerk be thrown in jail who didn’t touch anyone? I tend to think a steep civil fine is the better remedy in non-violent cases. And a Delta flight ban.

Were you on the Buildertrend Delta flight? How did you experience the flight?

“For the life of me, I cannot understand what motivates people to get drunk…and then the ugly side comes out.”

Many people can drink a few too many without getting ugly. Having friends over and getting lit can be great stress relief as well as a fun time. I’m not talking passed out/sloppy/nasty drunk. I know who to hang out with and end up “feeling no pain” as it were, but I’ve long ago weeded out the ugly ones.

    To each their own…

Wouldn’t you stipulate there is a difference between public drunkenness and doing so in the privacy of your own home (or even neighborhood bar)?

Very much so, although that wasn’t qualified in your statement. I never drink on planes or in the airport as I usually travel alone, plus the cabin pressure+alc0hol+my own constitution doesn’t make for a comfortable travel experience.

You’d be surprised what the spectre of a criminal record would do to prevent this kind of crap. A federal misdemeanor conviction plus a substantial fine seems more than appropriate… and I’m not talking about “deferred adjudication” where they get it erased for not being jerks for six months.

I’m not talking about making folks felons – but a simple misdemeanor conviction that requires them to check the “yes” box on future job applications and explain “I decided it was a good idea to get drunk, shout a racial slur and inconvenience 100+ people” would have net-positive results.

Yeah let’s just ruin someone’s life if they commit the heinous crime of getting drunk on a plane.

Oh please! These people didn’t ‘just get drunk on a plane’ they got drunk, disruptive, and and swore and used racial epitaphs. There behavior was bad enough that the plane turned around and inconvenienced a bunch of other people.

If you can’t make your argument without being dishonest, maybe you should think about how good your argument is.

When I get on a plane and drink, I don’t even get to the “fun drunk” part, I just go straight to the headache/hangover/can’t sleep part.

“Refusing to wear a mask was even worse” Really? How so? They do absolutely nothing to begin with. I love the fact that all the little whiny lock down to force people to be dependent on the government are almost all now getting ridding of mask policies.

I’m sure it has nothing to do with upcoming elections in November and low poll numbers…

Alai I’m sure you were supporting BLM right to occupy Seattle and Portland with its just a festival but now have a problem with the Canadian truckers doing the same thing.

    Hypocrites…

Many things motivate people to get drunk, not the least of which is a physical dependence on alcohol unfortunately viewed as a weakness by society at large. However, regardless of whether or not these men suffer such addiction, any “corporate professionals” that engage in that sort of behavior (racist slur or not) should expect their comeuppance before too long. It isn’t 1986 anymore, and that’s not how successful people behave.

Biden administration and city of san francisco Francisco are opening up places to shoot up cocaine on government dime. This is a good thing. Let people get as much as coke as they want and then peacefully OD. Do not try to revive them with narcan. There is something to be said about dying while doing something they enjoyed. Those are not just empty words. Also good way to control homeless population humanely. Let them OD with their own hands and free will.

Any interest in opening places to get drunk on government dime?

Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian wants people convicted of disrupting airline flights to be placed on the national no-fly list. Why does this need the DOT, DOJ, and Congress? Why can’t the other airlines just say if convicted of disrupting airline flights on another carrier, then you’re ban on ours as well?

It has always amazed me to see people at airport bars drinking at 7 or 8 am. This is a tradition that needs to end. Especially with the recent reports of unruly passengers. Cant we wait until noon?
I enjoy my nightly beers and a Sunday night Manhattan, but late in life I have decided that alcohol on planes and in airports is not a good combination.
On long flights food and drinks (including alcohol) make some sense.
I started flying in the late 60’s and early 70’s when the idea that flying was “special” still existed. It was not then and it is not now. Stop kidding yourselves. It is a flying Greyhound Bus.
Here in Denver in the early days of the pandemic the only place you could go to a bar and get a drink was at the airport. How does that make sense?
I flew almost every week for 11 months in 1216-17, and the last 6 months of 2019, most flights were 3 hours or less. Why do people need a snack or a drink on a 1, 2 or 3 hour flight?
