10 Airlines I Hope To Review In Business Class

Matthew Klint Posted onJanuary 31, 2019November 14, 2023 14 Comments

As much as I love reviewing first class products, I think business class reviews tend to be more helpful to more readers. Here’s a list of 10 airlines I hope to review this year in business class, but I’m open to suggestion.

Earlier this month I wrote a piece entitled, 10 Flights I Look Forward To In 2019. There is some overlap to the list below, but that list also included first class flights.

You’ll see my list below includes both exotic airlines and more “conventional” airlines. My goal is two-fold. While I want to (and will) review business class products for places I want to visit like Greenland, Tunisia, and Algeria, I also want to review more mass-appeal products that are easily obtainable with miles, like Air Italy, Tap Portugal, and even Delta.

Air Greenland

My #1 travel goal this year is to visit the Faroe Islands and Greenland. While there, I hope to fly the Air Greenland A330 from Copenhagen to Kangerlussuaq.

Tunis Air

I’ve always wanted to visit Tunisia and figure I might as well take Tunis Air when I do. The A330 does not look great at all, but prices are reasonable and I’d like to give this airline a try.

Air Algérie

When I go to Tunis I also want to visit neighboring Algeria. While there, why not take Air Algerie in one direction? Their A330 offers reverse herringbone seats in business class and therefore appears a better product than Tunis Air.

Delta Air Lines

I flew the Delta 767-300 in business class and thought it was a fine…now I want to try the A350 suites.

South African Airways

I had such a fun trip booked to South Africa last year that I had to cancel due to other work obligations. Hopefully I’ll have a chance to try the carrier’s new A330 business class before it goes under…

Virgin Australia

Virgin Australia Mistake Faresimage: Virgin Australia

It has been many years since I have been to Australia and the one thing I know when I return is this: I will fly Virgin Australia in one direction. I’ve flown Qantas and United…now we need a Virgin Australia review to or from one of my favorite countries.

Air Italy

Air Italy seems to be in trouble, so I hope I will be able to experience the new Los Angeles to Milan route before the carrier slashes it…

Avianca

Although I’m not fascinated about returning to Bogota, I do want to try the Avianca 787…I really enjoyed Avianca when I last flew them and discounted business class tickets make Avianca an airline to consider when traveling to Europe or Latin America.

Royal Jordanian

Jordan is one of my favorite places in the world, but I’ve never been on a longhaul Royal Jordanian flight…just a trio or regional flights. I’d like to try to the 787 in business class since this is often a viable redemption option using American Airlines miles.

TAP Portugal

TAP’s U.S. expansion and new expansion make this an obvious choice to target in 2019. I cannot wait to try the new A330neo.

CONCLUSION

There it is, a mix of conventional and fairly non-conventional carriers I hope to try. Any glaring omission from my list? Let me know if there is something you would like reviewed.

Good. Lucky is getting complacent. You can pick up his slack by multiple trip reports.

The window of opportunity is open.

Luckys just interested in pushing cc links and flying first class. He’s hypocritical enough to have 6 articles a week on premium economy, but will send his employees out to write an article as to why he won’t review PE

I thought DL’s A350 suite was just OK. It struck me as…a Vantage XL seat with a door. You should definitely try it, but I’d keep expectations in check.

As for Avianca, if you don’t like Bogota, you could just connect to somewhere else. I thought Cartagena was lovely. Or maybe connect to Brazil and try Azul on the way home.

Although I haven’t looked recently, I’ve noticed Avianca has offered very, very decent (sometimes cheap) fares to Europe out of LAX. It’s not something I’ve ever really considered because of the excessively circuitous routing, but might be nice for a review.

While VA space on the US routes is still non-existant in advance, I was pleasantly surprised recently with availability on SYD/MEL-HKG in advance.

How about Elal? It’s not so simple to review them because of their security, but there’s definitely not too many reviews on them.

Ooh, that should have been on my list. Definitely hope to fly EL-AL this year.

Have you reviewed Royal Air Maroc? I’d like to see that.

The only reason I’m not too keen on that, though the price is great, is because it’s just an old Korean Airlines plane. They didn’t even change the seat colors.

Dear Matthew, Do you pay for your own plane tickets, or wait for comps you can “review” ? If the latter, this whole arrangement sounds a tad tainted, maybe even dishonest.

I pay for my own tickets.

There was only one exception, below, which was clearly disclosed. That was because I had already reviewed the product on my own dime.

All of the carriers on this list I will pay for myself. I would never reach out to an airline for a comp and have turned down comps in the past.

Excited to try TAP Portugal’s A330Neo. Initially booked a flight with a “throne seat” to JFK but changed it immediately after they made the announcement. Too bad I paid extra $550 for the airfare difference and change fee from Friday to Saturday.

Also trying PAL’s A350 and Qatar’s QSuites. Happy days!!

I love the Avianca 787 from BOG to LAX and from LAX to Bog. The seating is 1-2-1. The meals are a bit disappointing. The meals are basically an economy class meal. The Star Alliance Lounge at LAX is awesome. Also to Avianca Diamond Lounge in BOG is superior to other lounges.
