Delta Air Lines Bans Conservative Comedian For Crude LGBTQ Joke On X

Delta Air Lines has banned a conservative comedian for his crude joke at the expense of a flight attendant wearing a pride pin.

Delta Bans Conservative Comedian For Crude Post On X

Tyler Fischer is a New York comedian who has made a name for himself poking fun at “woke” culture. Recently, he shared a photo of a Delta flight attendant wearing an LGBT pride pin along with scornful commentary:

a person wearing a vest

His crude post prompted a flurry of outrage, such that he deleted it.

But many had screenshotted it and it was sent to Delta, who decided to add Fischer to its permanent no-fly list. A letter from Delta to Fischer explained the reason for the ban:

During the flight, you took a photo of our flight attendant, who was wearing a pin permitted under Delta policies.

You subsequently posted the photo on X, along with vulgar and hurtful language towards our flight attendant’s perceived sexual orientation. Delta is proud to employ 100,000 individuals from many backgrounds who serve all our customers and their communities.

In short, the post was disrespectful towards our flight attendant and contrary to Delta’s values and culture. We have deemed your behavior to be unacceptable and made the decision to now allow you to fly Delta Air Lines. For the safety of our crew members and our customer, we cannot risk this type of behavior from you again.

There is no ban against photography onboard, though Delta has promised its flight attendants it would support them against passengers who take pictures that are “not well-intentioned.”

Although he protests the ban, Fischer has turned it into a comedy trope he calls the  “No Fly List” tour.

Day 83 of being treated like a terrorist by@Delta – put on their NO FlY LIST for a tweet. The will not answer the phone or call me back. They claimed we needed to have an "IMPORTANT" conversation. My guess is a woke employee planned to shame me for not having the same views as… https://t.co/VTtRysc0gn

My Thoughts

While I would not have banned him, I also understand why Delta did ban him. He took photos to shame and attack a flight attendant and his statement was crude and unnecessary. Of course, he enjoys free speech rights to post such images (there is no reasonable expectation of privacy, even on an airplane), but that means the government cannot prosecute him for such rhetoric…not that Delta must do business with him.

With the way things are going lately, I can see the Trump administration making a big deal out of this such that Delta is asked to back down or lose federal contracts…but let’s see how this plays out.

My own view is that a pride flag pin could mean many things (including simply solidarity with a long-marginalized group) and attacking a flight attendant for wearing one is very different than attacking a flight attendant for wearing a Hamas pin (i.e. promoting a terrorist government)…

I’m still of the opinion that no such pins of any right, left, or center ideological persuasion should be allowed in uniform, but would it be so hard to treat others with respect, even if you see the world differently than they do? Delta has determined that these pins are allowed and so cruelly mocking a flight attendant with such harsh language serves no legitimate purpose other than to intimidate.

CONCLUSION

Comedian Tyler Fischer was banned by Delta for an incendiary post on X attacking a flight attendant wearing a pride pin. He is now asking Elon Musk to help him but I find it hard to blame Delta for standing up for its crewmembers…

My opinion is that Delta did this to avoid letting another unionization push begin. It’s too easy to rile up the ranks over situations like this one. It just so happens they can ban this guy which appeases both shareholders and employees.

The post was crude. However, Delta is being a bully to use such a big stick.

I would not be harmed too much by a Delta ban but I don’t like being banned and also occasionally fly Delta. I used to fly Delta a lot for over a decade but their Sky Pesos are so worthless that I finally burned a total of half a million Pesos after the pandemic improved** so that I had only about 10,000, since increased to 45,000.

(**The pandemic is ongoing. It is better but not over. Mask wearing in some situations is still good)

Well, he has a point. Who does care? It’s just silly now. “Pride” has become a giant cringe, and declaring any type of political affiliation on one’s work ID; and make no mistake, that’s exactly what this is; is simply inappropriate. Nobody on board cares about your orientation, your identity, your race, or your religion. Just do your job, and leave your personal life on the ground.

Yet oddly enough, he chose to make a big deal about it. And conservative religious nutballs in the US sure like to make a big deal out of it.

Dude deserves a Presidential Medal of Freedom for his courage and bravery in saying what many of us think and believe. He is now suffering at the hands of a giant corporation for speaking out.

Hopefully he is nominated and our incredible President considers him for this honor.

Would be an interesting study if you have any insight into the history of pins. Not many other corporate environments where you see them.

Agree with you, if there was no threatening engagement, let a prejudiced man do as he legally pleases and still stand by your employees and their diversity.

There’s a bit of irony in his rhetoric but that’s another can of worms

He’s not prejudiced, he’s saying that private lives shouldn’t be advertised in public. This encompasses “Pride” pins, Palestinian flags, keffiyehs, and any other political insignia, just as it would include a staff member wearing a pin displaying the flag of the Third Reich or Antifa. The passengers don’t care. It’s totally narcissistic.

“including simply solidarity with a long-marginalized group”.

I’m not a native, and always find your English absolutely excellent with an elegant style.

Yet, I’m not sure the world “marginalized” is relevant in this case. I feel that it minors the homophobia.

It has a weird connotation. We would say for instance that Junkies or hippies are marginalized.

Gays have not only been marginalized or ostracised – Worse, they’ve been discriminated and oppressed.

The issue is that the pride flag has been politicized, even though it isn’t inherently political or tied to any specific ideology.

Palestine flag pin is not a Hamas pin. Palestine is a country, Hamas is a organization/group. Half cut water melon is also a foodie lovers pin 🙂 UN voting in 2018 failed to recognize Hamas as a terrorist organization, would fail also today.

The Pride flag is not political. The Pride flag is not political. The Pride flag is not political. Several years ago conservative architects chose first homosexuality and then transgenderism as a target, and the latest is DEI which is coded language for people of color succeeding. The movers of one political side picks issues which divide us to agitate their base into viewing the opposing side as “others” and less than human. Is a cross necklace political? Is a Jesus fish political? Is a peace sign political?

I would not have photographed nor would have I mocked the flight attendant in question but if I had the time and energy I would have made a complaint to Delta’s corporate headquarters if I flew Delta and I saw a flight attendant with a “Pride” pin. This begs the question: Since Delta allows pins promoting “Pride” does Delta also allow pins with an opposing viewpoint?

I’m not a comedian so I have little to gain from mockery. However, if you’re willing to wear a pin expressing your view, expect to receive disagreement. I support a lot of causes, ideas, and groups including the LGB crowd but don’t feel like my workplace is the appropriate place to show it because it gets in the way of professionally doing my job.
