Delta Air Lines Doubles Down On DEI Commitment

While many corporations are distancing themselves from diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in the new Trump era, Delta Air Lines appears to be moving in the opposite direction.

Delta Air Lines Is Remaining “Steadfast” In Supporting DEI Initiatives

Peter Carter, Delta’s Chief External Affairs Officer told investors during the carrier’s 4th quarter earnings call last month:

“We are steadfast in our commitments because we think that they are actually critical to our business. Sustainability is about being more efficient in our operations and really DEI is about talent and that has been our focus. The key differentiator at Delta is our people.”

Carter believes that DEI is about talent and integral to Delta’s long-term sustainability. Those comments have been echoed by CEO Ed Basitan:

“Thoughtful action combined with a focus on championing diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace and within our personal lives will play a healing role to help us keep climbing. The Delta family will use whatever means we have to move the world toward a better, more just tomorrow.”

This comes after an Executive Order by President Trump last month calling on the federal government and government contractors to eliminate DEI initiatives, arguing they “undermine the traditional American values of hard work, excellence, and individual achievement.”

Companies like Amazon, Google, Meta, McDonald’s, Target, and Walmart have responded by scaling back or eliminating their DEI efforts, but not Delta.

What does mean, Didn’t earn it? Please explain the parameters behind your statement. I’m a Dosimetrist. I had to take advanced physics, have a very strong math background and take a rigorous set of boards. I calculate radiation dose based the size of a carcinoma working closely with an oncologist. I calculate the exact dose to help save a patient’s life. I’m quite sure there are many that would look at me and say I didn’t t earn it based judgement observation in this political environment. Again, help me understand and please don’t give some political talking points. Only data please to support your position because I’m simply attempting to understand all of this hostility.

It’s the entire problem with DEI nonsense.

    • Jerry Reply

Dave, the intention of DEI, when executed properly, is to expand the talent pool, not shrink it.

At face value I agree with your statement. However, when peeling back the onion, a company moves forward with criteria measured by percentages to show they have met their DEI goals, is it still considered increasing the talent pool or simply meeting expectations.

EX: A Fortune 50 CEO delivered a speech and memo to his his employees at a Global Townhall stating his company in support of their DEI goals WILL achieve 57% women and minorities in all managerial roles all the way up to the C-Suite in the next 18 months.

The women and minorities are cheering, the white males are wallowing yet nobody asks: where and why is there a number and date to mature this transformation? If there are metrics and dates to meet, is that what DEI was intended for? If the answer is yes, then the argument for a greater talent pool is thrown out the window, imo.

But, for those not up to speed on Blackrock and NASDAQ’s requirements, here’s a research item to get you started: “Nasdaq’s “Board Diversity Rule”

@Dave … +1 . Of course it is Nonsense . It , along with the “climate change” fiasco , has a HIDDEN PURPOSE .

The Dems pushed the DEI and “Climate Change” fiascos onto the U.S. taxpayers in order to DIVERT ATTENTION from the vast amounts being stolen from the Treasury , through USAID , and other entities , to be sent to Non-Government-Organizations . The money is then transferred to the Dems for their billion-dollar campaigns , and to their enablers and “foundations” . The Treasury Dept. has a lot to answer for .

Trump and Musk saw through the giant fiascos .

I really do respect all views on equality and diversity – e.g. I may not as agree with the clearly racist opinion that the low average IQs in certain countries can be attributed to innate genetic differences compared to people elsewhere, but I wouldn’t seek to cancel/deplatform it.

However, what we’ve been seeing over the past few weeks isn’t people and companies changing their minds about the merits of the EDI agenda. It’s monkey see-monkey do behaviour which is indicative of a lack of any sort of moral compass.

Accenture have decided to stop using diversity KPIs to assess the performance of their staff and the progress of their business in general. If you think that diversity KPIs are a good idea, there’s not been any real justification for their abandonment. If you don’t think they are a good idea, there’s no real justification for them having adopted those KPIs in the first place. If you hire these people to give you business advice you’re an idiot and/or as much of a fraud as they are.

Well said… not that I agree with your statement, I just appreciate it not being clouded in political bias where the overall point is missed.

I would disagree in your “Monkey-see, Monkey-do” summarization. For me, it’s all about compliance. There are a lot of corporations that have publicly pulled back from DEI and ESG and will continue to do so but not for saving face/ saving customers (as they’ve already shown to disregard previously when implementing these policies publicly) and instead succumbing to a “New Sheriff in Town”.

Previously they were governed by and faced fines and penalties all the way up to delisting with Blackrock and NASDAQ to now, having Blackrock remove measures upon the newly elected president and that new President publicly drafting executive orders.

So again, for me, strictly compliance

      • PM Reply
        February 12, 2025 at 7:49 am

Yes and no, a lot of the time the compliance bit isn’t in direct response to consequences being threatened, but more of the result of their desire to be on-trend and/or suck up to certain people or institutions. Regardless of the precise motivation, however, that behaviour proves that they’re spineless.

        • Deebo Reply
          February 12, 2025 at 9:32 am

Not completely disagreeing but trying to drive a point home further – for a Corporation, there is no greater threat than delisting.

          But yeah, completely spineless.

Fortunately , Hawaii is already the most diverse , and so it never affected us .

Yet the Dem politicians here blindly follow orders and support the money-making fiasco on the mainland .

And the real purpose was to Disguise how the Treasury’s money was being looted by the Dems., at a cost of more and more debt added to the honest taxpayers . Musk is uncovering the entire fiasco , and the ones who profited are “demanding” the investigation stop .

Delta has also contributed millions to Trump’s re-election campaign and donated another million to Trump’s inauguration fund. So this feels a bit inauthentic. Delta’s just virtue signaling. It’s also a company that is actively working against Sarah Nelson’s efforts to get the FAs unionized, so what Delta claims and what Delta is actually doing, are two different things.
