Breakfast On EasyJet

Matthew Klint Posted onJanuary 25, 2020November 14, 2023 6 Comments

Each week, my Meal of the Week  feature examines an airline meal from my travels over the years. This may be a meal from earlier in the week or it may be a meal served over a decade ago.

More than a year later, I decided to give EasyJet’s Croque Monsieur another try. Would it be better than the lukewarm-cold-in-the-center sandwich I received last time I ordered it? What else does EasyJet offer for breakfast?

Due to the tardiness of certain members of my family (ahem, it wasn’t me…) we didn’t get much of a chance to eat in the lounge in Basel (BSL) prior to our flight to Tel Aviv (TLV). That’s sad because I generally prefer yogurt and a nice warm croissant to the packaged meals onboard a budget carrier.

Nevertheless, at least the rushed morning gave me a chance to re-examine the buy-on-board menu on EasyJet. If you’re a regular reader, you might recall that on a prior EasyJet flight I ordered a Croque Monsieur, a baked ham and cheese sandwich. It cost 7EUR.

I was curious if that would still be on the menu, since I love “grilled” cheese sandwiches so much (as much as an airplane oven can actually grill cheese). It was, though the French has been jettisoned and it is now called a “ham and cheese sourdough toast”. The cost also dropped to 4.50EUR. With potato chips and a bottle of water it cost 9.50EUR.

It took 40 minutes to arrive…I think the flight attendants forgot, though they claimed it was still cooking.

As you can see, this time it was nicely browned and warm to the center. A lot of carbs and fat to be sure, but I really liked it. I’ve had far better sourdough bread, though.

That wasn’t all we ordered, by the way. My wife wanted a cup of coffee (she wisely brought her own fruit and protein bars) and I ordered a bowl of porridge for Augustine, which included dried cranberries and nuts and was actually pretty tasty. The coffee is powdered…

The porridge plus coffee combo was 4.50EUR.

You can check the full EasyJet menu here. Onboard breakfast isn’t bad at all.

That seems like a relatively decent price for an airplane.

Just curious. Why did you name your son Augustine?

A compromise between Matthew Jr. and Konstantin.

LOL. Augustine is a good compromise. I like the name. Not too common. And it is a strong name.

Ham and cheese is an interesting choice on a flight to Israel…
