Next Up: Los Angeles to Frankfurt via Dubai in Emirates First Class

Matthew Klint Posted onJuly 19, 2018November 14, 2023 5 Comments

My next trip report will be a short one, covering my journey from Los Angeles to Frankfurt via Dubai in Emirates First Class onboard the A380 for both sectors.

Whenever I post a review that is more than a year old, I inevitably receive a complaint that my review is no longer relevant or out of date. I’ve discussed the issue at length in the past, but will do so again here.

That’s simply not the case.

In reality, very little changes onboard. When changes do occur, I am aware of them and never fail to point them out.

Ben from One Mile at a Time just published a review of Emirates First Class from Los Angeles to Dubai yesterday. On the one hand, I was amazed that almost nothing has changed in three years. Virtually nothing. Same seat, bedding, menu, bar, showers, and service. The amenity kit and pajamas looks a bit different, but that’s it. On the other hand, I’m not surprised at all. Emirates has found a winning product: why should it deviate from it?

My friend John also recently flew Emirates First Class. Nothing substantive has changed. Nothing. My review from 2015 is just as relevant as if my flight had occurred last week.

If you do not understand why I would even bother to publish old reports, think of it this way: my credibility and ability to fairly and accurately compare carriers comes from having experienced them. Flying Emirates First Class is a rite of passage for any points/miles blogger and I want to place my opinion (and 100+ pictures) on the record. Most of you have read many Emirates first class reports: the point is not to reveal new information, but to add an additional data point.

I’ll give you a small preview: service was lackluster on my Emirates flight from LA to Dubai. Well, lackluster for Emirates. That merits mention. I still loved the experience.

So here’s what you have to look forward to:

  • Lounge Review: Emirates Lounge Los Angeles (LAX)
  • Emirates A380 First Class Los Angeles to Dubai
  • Lounge Review: Emirates First Class Lounge Dubai (DXB)
  • Emirates A380 First Class Dubai to Frankfurt

Simple enough, right?

I booked the trip using 100,000 Alaska miles. The same trip now costs 180,000 miles.

Trip Reports to Come

Here are the “old” trip reports that remain. I’m transitioning into Middle East mode and will be focusing on Gulf Carriers in my upcoming trip reports.

  • Thai Airways A380 First Class + Asiana A380 First Class (2016)
  • Etihad Airways A380 First Class Apartments + Park Hyatt Hyderabad/Goa/Chennai/Maldives + Etihad Airways 777 First Class (2016)
  • Etihad Airways A380 First Class Apartments + Gulf Airways Business + Royal Jordanian Business + Qatar Business + Al Safwa Lounge + Qatar Airways A380 First Class (2016)
  • Balkans Trip (most overland) to Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Albania, Macedonia, Greece (2013)
  • LAN 767 Business Class + Easter Islands (2012)
  • TAM 777 Business Class + Brazil + Bolivia + Argentina (2011)

Thank you for reading. As always, your opinions are welcome in the comment section below.

My wife and I are flying Thai A380 FC (BKK-LHR) at the end of October for the first time so I’d appreciate seeing your take on it!
