Senator Fetterman Clashes With Pilot Over Seatbelt On American Airlines Flight

Fetterman Seatbelt

US Senator John Fetterman (D – PA) was captured on film arguing with an American Airlines regional pilot over wearing his seatbelt. Talk about petty…

Senator Fetterman Argues With American Airlines Pilot Over Seatbelt Visibility

Kyle sent me over the tweet below this morning, which apparently took place in February 2024 on an American Airlines flight (operated by a regional subsidiary) from Washington National (DCA) to Pittsburgh (PIT) but only surfaced today on social media.

Fetterman, seated in the front row of first class, is seen arguing with the captaHelp with in over his seatbelt. The captain explains that it must be visible at all times and even offers Fetterman a seat belt extender so that it will not be tight across his lap. In audio that is indecipherable, Fetterman appears to argue over this, insisting that he is wearing his seatbelt but refusing to place the seatbelt outside his (signature) hoodie sweatshirt.

Ultimately, the captain had enough and gave him an ultimatum:

“If you want to go to Pittsburgh, it’s simple. You have to follow our instructions or you’ll be asked to get off the airplane. We’re not asking much. All we need it to be able to see your seatbelt at all times.”

As Fetterman continues to argue, the extremely patient captain adds, “Well, it’s a federal regulation, so if I don’t do it, I can get in trouble, and I don’t want to get in trouble!”

I’m not a medical doctor and so I’ll refrain from diagnosing Fetterman, but the man has never been the same since his 2022 stroke. He’s certainly a “maverick” senator (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing), but he’s also a very stubborn man. After appearing on Bill Maher’s Real Time in June 2024, he took a redeye from Los Angeles (LAX) to Baltimore (BWI) and rahter than have his staff pick him up, Fetterman insisted on driving himself…and plowed into another while speeding, injuring motorist, his wife Giselle, and himself.

CONCLUSION

Video has emerged of Senator Fetterman arguing with a pilot about wearing his seatbelt.

I wish Fetterman all the best and there’s something I like about his independent streak, but this sort of outbreak is indefensible and a very worrying sign for a man who has endured a lot of health trauma over the last few years.

You don’t argue with the captain, especially over something so petty as a seatbelt. If you want to fly on a commercial jet, you need to put on your seatbelt when the seatbelt light is on…and if you’re smart (since turbulence can happen unexpectedly) you put it on at all times while seated.

Weird. Of all the travel news going on in the world, Matt picks this one. But of course I kid, it’s not weird at all. Guarantee if Fetterman hadn’t recently been voicing views that are contradictory to Matt’s preferred political bent, this Pulitzer-level, earth-shattering breaking “news” wouldn’t have made the “travel news” cut for his “Live and Let’s Trash Trump” blog. Guaranteed.

What does this possibly have to do with Trump?

I hate Trump, I despise him, I don’t think he should be President.

With that said, Matthew maybe many things, but a bootlicker of Herr Trump he ain’t.

Matthew is an old school Republican, now a days called a RINO.

On the flip side, Matthew what the commenter probably ment is that someone released this today because Fetterman said bad things about the Orangenan.

        “Herr Trump?”

It’s stupid comments like this that cause the rest of us — moderates and independents — to utterly despise the self-righteous and sanctimonious folks on the left (who are often oblivious about how far left they really are). So, until leftists can pull up their big boy pants and stop using silly, parroted left-wing jargon (e.g., “Orangenan,” “Orange Mussolini,” “MAGAt,” etc.), there just won’t be any politicians in the Democratic Party that appeal to us.

          Fake “independent” alert.

“Herr Trump” bothers you more than say, an executive orders that calls for the federal government to arrest mayors and governors for enforcing local laws?

Yea, I’m sure you are really a moderate.

I just love how the MAGA world constantly feels the need to whine and complain and show the world what snowflakes and cowards they are. If it’s not a drag queen it’s a trans woman or an immigrant, it is funny and pathetic at the same time. Grow up!

First I am uncertain there is a rule that the seatbelt be displayed atop your clothing once the flight attendant confirms that the belt is being worn. I have in the past, been asked to show the belt under a jumper style sweater ( always cold) . However if the captain ( or FA ) had asked for something I would comply.

Second, Fetterman is guy that marches ahead guided by his own wisdom and nobody’s sycophant. Because he had a stroke hasn’t changed his personality in that regard.

Third, choosing to drive from BWI to his home is not unusual.( check with Kyle) ,Asking a staffer in DC for a six + hour round trip was his choice but considering there were two drivers, not unnecessarily unsafe. Like anyone that has suffered a stroke you must be cleared to drive and it’s unfortunate there was an accident.

It’s interesting that brain damage from a stroke turns someone more conservative

Billy he has always been an independent thinker . Weird yes, but I can attest he has been ( over 20 years ) quietly involved with mentoring children in poverty. I suppose when you’re his sized it’s easy not to take flack from anybody.

Says a lot about the GOP that their hero standard bearer cult leader is a compulsive liar, serial sex offender, forever corrupt, multiply bankrupt, cheater on all 3 wives, multiply convicted felon, pathological narcissist, know-it-all, thin skinned, stupid, unintelligent, immature, sanctimonious, no respect for the rule of law or constitution, racist, bigoted, constantly projecting douchebag with no redeeming or admirable qualities at all.

And that every other elected GOP politician has their head buried firmly up his fat orange derrière.

Among my favorite quotes of his are when he bragged about not paying any income taxes (after undoubtedly lying about his deductions) and when he bragged about how much money HE PERSONALLY made when his 6 casinos went bankrupt. Talk about not caring about anyone other than himself.

Oh yeah, anyone who supports him is undoubtedly just as stupid and bigoted as he is. Interesting how just a few short months after the election how many people have already voiced regrets about voting for him.

Unfortunately for you, you add nothing to society but raising the average cholesterol. Trump hates people like you, he just used you to get into power. The smartphone is both the best and worst invention ever created. It makes otherwise normal people hiding behind online anonymity act like assholes online and tell other strangers things they don’t otherwise have the courage to tell them face to face. Try to imagine having a conversation like this with the person sitting next to you at an airport lounge and tell me you would speak to another man like this. Take a good look in the mirror buddy.

I bet you he would have no problems fastening the seatbelt and keeping it visible if the pilot was Netanyahu.

A pilot or steward/stewardess shouldn’t have to cajole a passenger to convince them to buckle up. It should be ask once and then off the plane you go. No questions, no protest by passenger. This wastes time.

I realize strokes rearrange the brain where they do and say things they shouldn’t, but if someone is like this then someone needs to accompany them, not only for their safety, but others around them. You just can’t keep acting like everything is normal. Stroke patients have good and bad days.
