Review: Grand Hyatt Singapore (Suite)

a gold text on a marbled surface

I enjoyed a loverly two-night stay at the Grand Hyatt Singapore, an excellent property in the heart of Singapore.

Upon arrival, I was informed that I had been upgraded, though the agent did not say to what kind of room. Opening my door, I found myself in a suite. Although this room is technically classified as “1 King Bed Deluxe” rather than a suite, it’s a suite. Separate living room and bedroom with door. That’s a suite, right?

The living room had a couch, chair, coffee table and desk with plenty of room to spread out.

The bedroom featured a king bed with end tables and a dresser. Both rooms had TVs and unfortunately not much of a view outside.

I bet many of you would call the marble in the bathroom dated. It probably is old. But it was my style. I appreciated the large size and extra amenities like mouthwash.

Grand Hyatt Singapore Grand Club

In a country full of cheap and delicious food, you’ll need to resist the urge to eat dinner in the Grand Club each night. Because there is enough food for dinner: it’s one of the best Grand Clubs I’ve ever been in. I enjoyed cooked-to-order pasta with salad and a glass of red wine. It was more than enough for a meal. Grand Club access if available for a fee or free with Globalist status.

Determined to leave the hotel and show my uncle (his first time in Singapore) a hawker centre, we did resist the urge to visit the Grand Club our second night. In case you’re interested, there’s a hawker center called the Newton Food Centre within walking distance of the hotel.

We did have breakfast in the lounge both mornings: in addition to a cold buffet with western and eastern food items, eggs are available cook-to-order.

The lounge staff was excellent and certainly a highlight of the stay, particularly one gentleman who reminded me of the Singaporean version of Nathan Lane in The Birdcage.

Grand Hyatt Singapore Dining

We had lunch our last day (day three) at StraitsKitchen…talk about a buffet. Our only mistake was eating breakfast…I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves, but the selection of food from around the world was amazing.

Also in the lobby, 10 Scotts is known most for its afternoon tea, but also offers cocktails and a smaller buffet.

The hotel has several other restaurants including mezza9, Oasis Restaurant, Pete’s Place, and BRIX (a nightclub).

The hotel grounds are beautiful, particularly in the outdoor common areas. A large pool and poolside terrace offered relief from the hot and humid summer weather. Unlike many family-friendly resorts, the pool did not get crowded.

Oasis Restaurant is poolside and offers daily a daily BBQ buffet dinner.

The fitness center was surprisingly small for such a large hotel, but adequate.

A tennis court is also available:

I took a peak in a spa treatment room, but did not receive a treatment while there.

CONCLUSION

Next time I’m in Singapore I’ll try the Andaz, but I have nothing but positive things to say about this property and its staff.

This is a Category 5 hotel in the World of Hyatt program, meaning 20,000 points per night or 10,000 points + $125USD.

I got the same as room as you there last year. However, when I used a DSU a few years back, they gave me the two level suite. You have an entrance on two different floors of the club level.

Are those grass tennis courts? If so, I might have to do a stopover there next trip to Asia and knock two things off my bucket list.

@WR: I don’t believe so, but I will try to find out.

The deal at this property (if you’re not Globalist) is to book cash rate with a points upgrade (3000) for the Club Deluxe Room. 3k is a great price for what is basically a suite plus club access.

    How long ago was this?

I stayed 1-night in August 2017 at this hotel in the exact same suite category as you. It looks like some of the decor has been updated, like the furniture. When I stayed, the room felt very tired — maybe 10-years-old. The bathroom was the same as your bathroom. Clean, but tired. I’d guess the marble is original to when the hotel was built. The pool was very nice, but the hotel was tired. I’ve read a renovation is occurring now. Maybe you got lucky and got a renovated room, though the TVs in your room were the same TVs that my room had. They’re from 2010-ish.

We are staying in a club room and have stayed many hotels in the world . Living in some countries for 3 months or so in nice hotels with club benefits.
This is the BEST yet. The club has different food morning and night, generous drink pours and the best staff anywhere .
      Love it .
Great king club room which is really a 2 bedroom suit. Stay here!
