Review: Hong Kong Airlines A330 Business Class Bangkok To Hong Kong

Matthew Klint Posted onDecember 14, 2018November 14, 2023 8 Comments

Here’s a brief review of my quick early morning flight from Bangkok to Hong Kong on Hong Kong Airlines aboard the A330 in business class.

With no line for business class passengers, check-in took mere moments.

After a longer stay in the Miracle Lounge than we would have liked, we found our boarding gate at the far end of the terminal. Boarding was just starting as we arrived.

Onboard, a FA inspected my boarding pass and walked me to my seat, warmly welcoming me onboard.

Hong Kong Airlines A330 Regional Business Class Seat

I was surprised to see a regional configuration on this flight after the fully lie-flat beds on the flight from Hong Kong to Bangkok. This cabin was certainly starting to show its age, but the seat (also used by Singapore Airlines and Kenya Airways) is comfortable enough for a short flight. In fact, I was able to sleep just fine on it, though exhaustion may be a better explanation for why than the seat itself. The cabin contains 30 seats in a 2-2-2 configuration.

The seat included two small storage compartments below the monitor for personal storage, a side compartment, power port, and old S-video port.

Hong Kong Airlines A330 Regional Business Class Meal

After takeoff, breakfast was promptly served. It was too early and I was not hungry, but I did not have to work when I landed in Hong Kong and wanted this review to be complete…so I ordered scrambled eggs with bacon. I’ll be honest, I only had a couple bites of the eggs. Not because there was anything wrong with them, but simply because I was not hungry. I did enjoy the almond croissant and fresh fruit before falling asleep. FAs turned the lights down and did not disturb passengers who chose to sleep.

Hong Kong Airlines A330 Regional Business Lavatory

I awakened as the cabin was being prepared for landing and quickly used the lavatory. While the lavatory is well-provisioned to offer all kinds of amenities, the amenity drawers were empty.

The IFE on this flight, though on a different interface, was the same as my previous two Hong Kong Airlines flights. For more details on IFE, click here.

No slippers or amenity kits were offered.

CONCLUSION

We landed a bit late in Hong Kong, but I was thankful for the extra 20 minutes of rest. The views were great coming in, through it was a dreary morning in Hong Kong upon arrival.

There’s not much to report for a such a short trip, but Hong Kong Airlines made it a comfortable journey. Most of all, I appreciated that the meal service was done quickly and did not bother those who chose to sleep.

That’s decidedly not an S-video port, although I can’t say exactly what it actually is. Must be a proprietary output of some sort.

Isn’t that the old “cigarette port” charger found on old UA 777 Int’l F? I had an adapter just for that plane.

There was also a full power port. I always thought this was some sort of outdated internet or video hookup.

You see the seat, cabin, menus, food itself, IFE, and lavatory. Anything more you want on a 2.5hr flight?

If you pay sufficient attention based on your own experience, the lavatory is the largest giveaway that this plane used to fly with SQ until very recently. No one else spec’s mirror lights in the lavatory like how SQ does. Furthermore these ex SQ planes are only on lease as a stop ga measure. HX will not be reconfiguring them.
