I chose the Hyatt Place San Pedro Sula for my one-night stay and found the hotel centrally located and comfortable with a nice pool and respectable breakfast.

Hyatt Place San Pedro Sula Review

I spent a night here for $80 plus tax…a reasonable price considering the comfort of the hotel and because it helped me to re-qualify for Globalist status.

When arriving at street level, you will need to take an elevator up from the ground floor to the lobby in order to check-in.

Dining

All dining is clustered on the lobby level.

I arrived at 7:00 am hoping to check-in early, but my room was not ready. A friendly check-in agent advised me to take a seat, but I asked if it might be possible to take my breakfast immediately instead of the next day, since I would be leaving the hotel before 5:00 am to catch my flight back to LA. My request was obliged.

Breakfast Bar

Breakfast is served from 6:00 am to 10:00 am daily buffet-style. World of Hyatt members on “eligible” rates (not even sure what that means…) qualify for free breakfast (not just Globalist members). The key to maximizing your chance of breakfast is to book direct rather than via online travel agency or other third party.

The buffet included croissants, baguettes, sliced melon, whole apples and guava (too many seeds), cereal, salami, black beans, scrambled eggs, chorizo sausage, plantains, and a verde sauce (warmed). Eggs made-to-order were also available.

I skipped the juice and coffee…I knew I would be going out for coffee and the juices are not fresh-squeezed.

I had an omelet as well as some scrambled eggs with black beans, tortilla chips, and some spicy green salsa.

The Bar

On the other side of the breakfast area was a bar with indoor and outdoor city views. It is open 24/7.

The Market

On the other side of the bar is a market with coffee, soft drinks, and cake available between the hours of 11:00 am and 10:00 pm.

The Gallery

Open for lunch and dinner, the Gallery is the hotel’s main restaurant and offers the sort of food you might expect from an American hotel chain including cheeseburgers, steaks, and pasta (menu here).

Room Service

Food and drinks can be delivered up to your room (same menu as downstairs) between the hours of 11:00 am and 10:00 pm. However, you cannot get breakfast delivered to your room, since the hotel only offers a buffet concept of dining.

Room

The room was quite large, with a couch, desk, bed, and two chairs. I did not spend much time in here, but noted the air conditioning worked (it was a warm June day) and there were plugs within reach on either side of the bed and while sitting at the desk.

Pool

An outdoor pool overlooks the Hilton Hotel next door, but was well-manicured with green bushes and wooden chairs and couches.

There appeared to be a bar at the pool, but it was closed (and I also did not see any reference to it on the hotel website).

Fitness Center

The fitness center included brand-new equipment from Life Fitness including ellipticals, bikes, treadmills, free weights, and an all-in-one strength resistance machine.

Meeting Space

I don’t typically seek out meeting space in my hotel reviews, but walked by in since it is on the same level as the pool and fitness center and found the area quite expansive, with a large outdoor area.

CONCLUSION

I had a very nice one-night stay at the Hyatt Place San Pedro Sula and would return. I appreciated that the hotel offered me early check-in and accommodate my request to eat breakfast on my day of arrival rather than on my day of departure. I also appreciated the clean rooms, swimming pool, and fitness center. This is not a hotel you would ever go out of your way to visit, but if you are in San Pedro Sula this is a very solid choice.

@Matthew, as always, a nice review. But, wow, typos galore! Maybe you were rushed or accidentally published a draft. Also, was that an upgraded room, or was it a standard one that most guests can expect?

    – “prequalify for Globalist status.” requalify?
    – “to the lobby in order to check.” check-in?
    – “On the other side of the breakfast area was a bar with indoor and outdoor city.” city views?
    – “there were plugs wither reach” within?
    – “was well-manicured with green bushes and wooden” wooden deck or furniture?
    – “The fitness center included brand-new equipment from Life Fitness included elliptical…”
    – “my day of arrival rather than my day departure.” day of departure?

I appreciate you taking the time. Truly. Goodness, I was working on fumes yesterday but no excuse for missing all of those.

@Matthew, I enjoy your posts and appreciate your writing. I like seeing you put your best foot forward. 🙂 I have to admit that I pointed them out for selfish reasons, too – to make the post easier to read. :-p

I think it’s a real bummer that San Pedro Sula, Tegucigalpa, and (gasp!) San Jose only got Hyatt Places. These seem like perfect places for a Centric; especially if designed and run like the one in Guatemala City. There’s just no real benefit to being a Globalist at a Hyatt Place.
