Two nights at the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill gave me a chance to try out the hotel’s newly remodeled room and older room.
I arrived late in the evening from Heathrow Airport and was informed that the hotel was running full and no upgrades, even to a garden view room, were available. Daniel at the front desk profusely apologized and told me that due to the lack of upgrade, I was welcome to enjoy my breakfast in The Montagu Kitchen, the hotel’s main restaurant. Normally, Globalist members only have access to the Regency Club for breakfast. That seemed like a very nice tradeoff for me.
Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill Guest Room
My fourth floor guest room was very small–just a queen bed and small couch–but I liked it a lot. It was clearly recently renovated and was nice and cozy.
Best of all was the bathroom, though. It included Molton Brown toiletries, a heated Toto toilet seat, and a new easy-to-enter shower with rain head. I’m not sure if the bathroom used to have a bathtub, but I think the larger shower represented a much better utilization of space.
The Upgrade
The following day, I was proactively offered an upgrade to a larger room with a king bed and garden view. The room would also be located on the eighth floor, meaning only a short walk to the Regency Club. I took it without checking…which was a mistake.

The new room was indeed much more spacious and the bed larger. I also appreciated the desk and view of the park below. But the bathroom…oh the bathroom. No Toto toilet and a shower/tub combo that was much more inconvenient. Plus, Pharmacopia amenities instead of Molton Brown. Now, I like Pharmacopia a lot, but I thought locally-made Molton Brown was more suitable for this property.
Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill Regency Club
I ended up spending virtually no time in the Regency Club, but like the way the hotel has structured it. There are actually two Regency Clubs: one intended for families with children and one where children are forbidden. That ensured peace and quiet in the adults-only lounge, where I ate breakfast one morning. The lounge was always crowded, so I am just using a stock photo below in order to protect the privacy of other guests:
The spread included a continental + English breakfast buffet and eggs made to order.
I returned in the evening to check out the spread and noted a variety of cold cuts, salads, breads, and soup. Alcohol, soft drinks, water, juices, tea, and coffee are available, with all but alcoholic beverages available throughout the day.
Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill Dining
As I mentioned above, I was invited to eat breakfast in Montagu Kitchen and did my final morning at the property. The buffet was much more expansive than Regency Club in terms of choice, though I opted to order from the menu.
The menu:
I enjoyed a “green” smoothie, cappuccino (excellent), bowl of berries, and Eggs Benedict with guacamole on rye.
I also tried a flat white, which was too weak…
Here are a few shots from the buffet:
The hotel also has an Italian restaurant named Locanda Locatelli that I did not check out.
Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill Bar & Terrace
The Churchill Bar offers both a beautiful indoor and outdoor section. Blankets and heat lamps make it tolerable outdoors year-around.
Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill Gym
The hotel’s second floor gym is very small and almost exclusively cardiovascular equipment. This property features no pool and no spa.
Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill Location
The hotel’s ideal location central London makes this a much more convenient property for taking in London’s top attractions than the Andaz across town (also a great hotel).

CONCLUSION
I enjoyed my two-night stay at the Hyatt Regency London very much. I recommend it and appreciated the comfort of this hotel…particularly of the newly renovated room.
I made a GOH booking for my mother and her best friend last October. Hotel played games with the suite upgrade and possibly infested rooms. they gave them a old unremodeled room twin room. within 10 mins of my mother sitting down, she was had 5+ bug bites around her waist. I told her to talk to the hotels to ask for upgrade to suite as they are available and to complain about the bug issue, but they insisted no suites available and no other rooms available. I had to call WOH Globalist line to complain and have then look at inventory for the suites and other rooms, and have the Globalist rep call the hotel.
Overall not a pleasant experience for me or my mother on her birthday trip.
