Admittedly, I’m quite tempted by the latest JetBlue promotion in celebration of the carrier’s 25th anniversary. That said, I live on the wrong coast so maybe someone can talk some sense into me before I rush out to take part in it…
JetBlue 25th Anniversary Promotion: Up to 350K Miles and Mosaic Status For 25 Years
I took part in the SAS EuroBonus promotion last year with my son Augustine, where we each earned a million miles. Not only was the promotion worthwhile in terms of the return on our time, but it was so much fun and also a great bonding experience.
JetBlue has announced a promotion of its own to celebrate the carrier’s 25th anniversary. This promo incentivizes you to travel to as many JetBlue destinations as possible:
- Fly to 15 JetBlue destinations, earn 150,000 bonus TrueBlue points
- Fly to 20 JetBlue destinations, earn another 200,000 bonus TrueBlue points
- Fly to 25 JetBlue destinations, earn Mosaic elite status for 25 years
Here are some additional key details:
- Travel must be completed between June 25 and December 31, 2025
- You must attach your TrueBlue number
- Each destination (or airport, in destinations with multiple airports) will be counted once
- Departure airports will not count as destinations in this promotion (e.g., LAX-BUF will count as visiting one destination (BUF))
- Individual airports will count as unique destinations for cities with multiple airports (e.g., JFK, LGA and EWR are each unique destinations)
- Blue Basic and codeshare flights are excluded
- True Blue Redemption tickets also qualify
- Mosaic status will include Mosaic 1 status with a Perks You Pick selection
- Points and status will be issued within 2-3 weeks of offer completion
I’m Tempted To Take Part In This Promotion…
I’m so busy with work and family obligations in California right now that I haven’t dug deep into this promotion. I can imagine there’s a way to do it at a reasonable cost and I’m quite tempted, especially if I could visit some additional countries I have yet to visit, like Ecuador and the Dominican Republic.
But time is so valuable right now that I don’t see it happening… especially because JetBlue is now much weaker from the West Coast, effectively forcing me to position to the East Coast to do this.
I could see myself doing this in three chunks: one from LAX, one from BUR, one from ONT (the three airports in Southern California that JetBlue serves). It would then be a bit of a mileage run from New York or Florida to rack up as many destinations as possible while being gone for as short as possible.
And while the 350,000 points is intriguing in that it could pay for several Mint tickets across the country, I’m having trouble getting excited about Mosaic 1 status, which as benefits including:
- priority security and boarding
- two free checked bags
- complimentary alcoholic beverages onboard
- access to Even More Space seats at check-in
- same-day flight changes without fees or fare differences
- dedicated check-in line and phone support
The annual Perks You Pick selection includes:
That’s all worth something, but my money is still on JetBlue and United eventually merging and I already have lifetime MillionMiler status with United Airlines.
Is there anything I’m missing?
CONCLUSION
JetBlue’s latest promotion is intriguing…and quite lucrative, especially for those based on the East Coast. While I do consider taking part in it (and bringing my son along again), my schedule is so busy right now that I cannot see myself taking the time.
Given that right next to this story on my news feed is one about JetBlue’s second largest investor publicly threatening to sell his shares, which would depress the stock price from which it would probably not recover, if the company doesn’t engage in serious cost-cutting, I wouldn’t make any long term plans with JetBlue.
So you can choose 25 years * 15 000 bonus points / year = 375 000 points? Or only once?
As part of the mileageRun you would earn Tiles and Points? Should be enough for Mosaic2 at least…
You get 25 years plus 350K points.
I still don’t understand it:
The annual Perks You Pick selection includes: “Boost your TrueBlue balance with 15,000 bonus points.”.
Can you pick this perk each year for the next 25 years? If so, you would gain 350.000 points plus 375.000 points?
(It may make sense to pick the 2*20 tiles during the mileageRun year run to gain mosaic 3 or even mosaic 4. My understanding is that you can choose the perk 20 tiles each time you reach the next mosaic level.(?))
If B6 can make it thru the next 12 to 15 months, those points and tiles might be worth something. However, I wouldn’t hold my breath should B6 fail to be nominated for Star membership. UA is the one who could veto the nomination as a founding member if it doesn’t get its JFK gates and slots.
“That said, I live on the wrong coast so maybe someone can talk some sense into me before I rush out to take part in it…”
Maybe if you find that person, send them my way to talk me out of seriously considering this foolish errand too…
You should absolutely do this. Why:
The miles have value.
You could include a family trip or two as part of this.
It would make fun reading for the blog.
When United takes over JetBlue the status may very well transfer.
But I already have 1K on United (and will always have Gold, which seems higher than Tier 1 Moasic). The points are intriguing, but it seems the cost would be $5K to do this…so I’m not sure I gain anything. You’re right, though, that this would be some (hopefully) great content and at least the flights would be productive with free Wi-Fi.
I didn’t know your lifetime status. Still interesting.
I’m wondering if you can double-dip, so to speak, on the points if they are awarded at the 15 and 20 marks. So you might only have to cough up funds/points to get to 15 destinations and from there, it’s an easy ride. Jetblue is very affordable in economy class so assuming about $100 one way tickets as you jaunt around the map, you could pull this off for about $2,000 to the 15 destination mark and then minimal expenses the remaining 10 trips. I would also presume you earn points on the way up to the 15 point destination helping to ease it further.
$2000 for 25 year mosaic 1 status is about $100/year if you factor it out, offset by the $99 credit for the Jetblue Plus card which is great because that card when I churn it gets me 70K in miles. Traveling with the cat for free would be pretty nice + the drinks.
If I was single, I’d totally go for it.
Your summary of the article was my first thought. What are the chances B6 will even be around to enjoy your benefits? New York based, it would be fairly easily attainable. Southern California? Not a chance.
But you could have waived pet fees for 25 years. Seems like you’d be all over that
