Now I Am Convinced JetBlue Is Starting Service To London…

Just a follow-up on my post yesterday about an “important” JetBlue announcement coming on April 10th. Now I’m even more convinced JetBlue will announce service to London.

Recall, the email stated:

Save the Date

JETBLUE ALL HANDS

Join us for a chat about JetBlue’s vision and strategy followed by a Crewmember after-party.

Wednesday, April 10, 2019
New York City

Doors open at 1500ET

All Crewmembers are welcome to watch via webcast or attend in person.

Stay tuned for details on how to RSVP for you and a guest. Tickets to attend in person will be first-come first-served.

I only received the text of the email and still speculated that it was about service to Europe. But after someone forwarded me the actual email, I am even more convinced JetBlue will announce service to London.

Look at the email below. What do you notice?

a blue and white poster with text

The background of the email is the same moquette (carpet) as you will find on the London Underground.

I suppose this could all be a cruel trick from JetBlue, but I doubt it. Rumors of European service have been going on too long. One self-identified JetBlue crewmember even emailed me yesterday with the following:

Crewmember London brief has already been done. Boston to Heathrow on the A321XLR with mint configuration to start (no date set, waiting for new 321). Widebodies being looked at for fleet expansion if London is a success (330 and 787).

Let’s also not forget the strong hint released in an employee video in December:

LHR…

CONCLUSION

So now we have over a month to wait and see. But after seeing the email and reading the feedback it generated, I am more convinced than ever before than JetBlue is starting service to London.

If not, JetBlue really played a mean trick on all of us…

Fly to Manchester uk if you miss out here chinese airlines will take slots..
Third largest airport uk (& growing) much needed in the north of the country
More than one airport in the uk ?. Also Glasgow’ Birmingham’ etc remember you will loose out if you only use Heathrow people don’t want to travel to London from the north of the U.K. To go stateside. Check out virgins flights to USA from Manchester always full planes…

As a BOS based flier, and frequent traveler to London, this will be a nice addition. While there is competition on the route, DL and Virgin are basically the same price, and American and BA tend to follow the pricing trends. It will be interesting to see how long Jet Blue will keep their prices low before they come back up. I will miss the Virgin lounge at LHR when flying Jet Blue.

Wheres the research to compliment this story that shows the B6 delivery schedule of the Neo’s & XLR’s then we can speculate on a start date too though I’m still wondering why BOS & not JFK?

@Matthew Can the XLR make the flight from JFK as well?

@Alex. It can make it as far as what I have read. Not for LCC’s though. It would have to be one with plenty of premium seating.

I think BOS keeps them out of the JFK fray to London for the time being as they work through the kinks of such a different product offering than their normal and until the brand is better known in the U.K.

Hopefully it is to Birmingham England, just north of London near Stratford Upon Avon. We are Britain’s second city and crying out for direct links to the USA

220 to London City from BOS and JFK, all Mint? That would be an upset

Do you think JetBlue is going to start serving meals (not just snacks) in economy-class when they launch flights to Europe? This would make sense considering all of their partners have meals in economy.

Which to & from airports, do you speculate?

    Matthew,
Do you think JetBlue will start serving meals in economy (not just snacks) when they add service to Europe? Would make sense if they are competing against major carriers and not low-cost carriers.

I do think they will offer MINT-like meals in economy class, which will further distinguish them from the competition.

    LHR slots?
    LGW slots?
Scarce as hen’s teeth. And way more expensive.

Jet blue doesn’t even have good coverage in the USA so why try to fly routes to the UK is my big question.

Surprised nobody commented on the use of 24-hour time– standard in Europe, but not in the US (though perhaps moreso in aviation than generally).

On April 10th JetBlue will announce that they may or may not be flying to Europe but in the short term they are closing the lgb base. They are throwing a big party to celebrate the gutting of profit sharing as well as the stock buyback which was done so they could reissue the stock to the board and executives.

it’s not a hidden secret anymore. Jetblue has been quite revealing on their European intentions in various Regulatory filings (like in their “opposition” to Haneda authorities)

my bet on launch announcement – LHR first, then AMS + DUB, with CDG being the wild card.

But no, B6 isn’t jumping in BOS-LIS anytime soon, despite that head-scratching route launch by DL.
