Lufthansa A380 Returns To Los Angeles

I am pleased to see the Lufthansa Airbus A380 serve Los Angeles International (LAX) once again.

Lufthansa A380 Now Arriving Daily At LAX

As of October 26, 2023 the Lufthansa A380 has again returned to Los Angeles with service to Munich (MUC).

To commemorate the new route, Lufthansa offered passengers a sprinkled donut before boarding the “inaugural” flight from MUC-LAX.

Each day LH452/453 will operate according to the following schedule:

The A380 adds capacity in economy class and business class between LA and Munich and also my second favorite first class cabin in the Lufthansa fleet (the 747-8 remains my favorite but I love the larger lavatories on the upper deck of the A380).

I must admit, I’m thinking about a trip next month to get the Christmas duck and enjoy the traditional roast gooses dinner that has been a staple of Decembers in Lufthansa premium cabins for many years.

Of course I’d love a do-over of our botched Christmas trip a couple years ago, but I’m not sure I want to spend the points (and these days, it is highly unlikely I can ever get seats on this route). Plus, we are not planning a Christmas trip to Germany this year.

But a warning…avoid the last row if possible…and bring a power bank for your large electronic devices because there is no power plugs beyond a USB-A port.

A380s Flying To Los Angeles

With the Lufthansa A380 back, you can catch a number of A380s at LAX, including:

  • Asiana
  • British Airways
  • Emirates
  • Korean Air
  • Lufthansa
  • Qantas

CONCLUSION

It is great to see the Lufthansa A380 back at LAX and I look forward to flying it…hopefully in the first row rather than the last row!

I tried to fly their Airbus 350 service this past May and in business class it was just under $8,000 round trip. Now with more capacity, it is OVER $8,000 with most of a year to book in advance.

Compare that to connecting (about four to 5 hours longer with layovers and second flight) on Turkish and it is less than half the price on a Dreamliner.

When I tried to use some of my then 300,000 miles on United, I was told that I needed to use enough miles to fly to NYC back in Business on United (about $3,500 to $4,500 in value) and then add in $6,700 in additional miles.

They are tone deaf. I just bailed on the trip because of the cost of business class airfare.
