Oktoberfest Isn’t Cancelled On Lufthansa

There may be no Oktoberfest this year in Munich, but Lufthansa will still host Oktoberfest on one very special flight.

Lufthansa Oktoberfest Flight 2020

Blaming the pandemic, Munich cancelled Oktoberfest this year, a festival that draws millions to the Bavarian capital every September (yes, Oktoberfest is celebrated in September). But on Lufthansa, the tradition will live on….a tradition that dates back to 1957.

The Dirndl of the Lufthansa long-haul crews was createdby the Munich costume designer Angermaier: The flight attendants’ Wiesn-Dirndl is dark blue with a silver-grey apron, the men wear short leather pants with a dark blue vest in the fabric of the Dirndl.

On September 22, 2020, Lufthansa will offer an Oktoberfest-themed flight onboard LH421 from Munich to Newark (each year, the Oktoberfest flight goes to a different destination). This year’s flight will be operated by an Airbus A350-900. Expect trout and Bavarian cream with Weissbier served from a keg on the menu in business class. In fact, the trout is available all month in business class. Bavarian dishes will also be available in Lufthansa’s lounges in Munich.

Other Lufthansa Oktoberfest-Themed Flights

If you cannot make it to the United States, look for Lufthansa crews in traditional costume on CityLine flights between Munich and:

  • Berlin (TXL)
  • Copenhagen (CPH)
  • Helsinki (HEL)
  • Manchester (MAN)
  • Santorini (JTR)
  • Sylt (GWT)
  • Vienna (VIE)

CONCLUSION

I’m so happy Lufthansa is preserving this tradition, even if I hate beer (yes, I do). One of these years I’ll have to try this special flight.

Have you been on a Lufthansa Trachtencrew flight? Will you celebrate Oktoberfest this year in your own way?

Matthew… It took you until your late 20s to love coffee. Perhaps in your late 30s you’ll learn to become a cerevisaphile!

I was at least hoping to get an Oktoberfest beer in the reopened IAD LH club, but, alas, no bar.
