My Las Vegas Hotel Dilemma

Matthew Klint Posted onNovember 26, 2010 3 Comments

Last week Expedia’s Canadian division ran a wonderful $300 off promotion that I took full advantage of.

Booking the trips to New York City were easy, but the trips to Las Vegas were a bit more difficult. With Vegas, I was faced with two choices: book a mediocre hotel for free or pay an extra ~$100 for a top property like the Wynn or Bellagio.

I’m not a big fan of Las Vegas, but couldn’t pass up a deal to go there for free and will be taking my first of two trips there late this afternoon. In the end, I decided to "split the baby" and go with a "free" hotel this trip and a five-star hotel for my trip next month.

In past trips to Las Vegas, I have stayed at the JW Marriott in Sumerlin or the Westin Casurita just off the strip. Tonight, I’ll be giving the four-star Golden Nugget a try and next month I’ll stay the Wynn.

Stay tuned for a full a report. If the $39/night Golden Nugget turns out bad, I won’t be such a penny-pincher next time a good deal comes up.

Golden Nugget should be somewhat decent (see enough of the advertising for it during Poker After Dark)

I couldn’t decided either, so I took Las Vegas Hilton on Paradise Road, right off the strip for my ticket and then paid $12 canadian for the Mandalay Bay at the end of the strip (plus pay $15 resort fee per night(2), so approx $42. I will take the free shuttle to the Hilton and check in for my points, while my husband takes the free shuttle to the mandalay bay to get us checked it. I figure it is worth it (?) at least check into the Hilton hotel for points (and I have offered it to friends, who also have 2 hotels for the night!)

My prediction is leaning towards your last sentence of this post. Have fun in Vegas, anyhow!
