Review: Lufthansa Lounge London Heathrow (LHR)

Matthew Klint Posted onJuly 21, 2018July 21, 2018 4 Comments

The Lufthansa Lounge in London Heathrow’s Terminal 2 is a spacious lounge with nice amenities and plenty of natural light.

If you’re used to Lufthansa lounges in Germany, you’ll feel right at home in this one. Seating is plentiful and at midday, the lounge was not crowded at all. The lounge was also quiet…it was nice not to have any music playing in the background. Power plugs are plentiful and typically dual: one to accept UK plugs and another to accept German/EU plugs. You’ll need an adapter for U.S. plugs.

This lounge is a far cry from the carrier’s recently refurbished lounge in Milan Malpensa. While the decor is similar, the Heathrow lounge is more than double the size, avoiding severe crowding issues.

Complimentary food is available, including an assortment of hot and cold items. All food and drink is self-serve.

Business or Senator Lounge?

In the back of the lounge, you’ll see a sliding door with the words “Senator Lounge” written above it. That’s Lufthansa lounge-within-a-lounge for Star Alliance Gold cardmembers and connecting first class travelers.

If you’re eligible for this lounge, you’ll be given a slip of paper with a QR code on it when you enter the lounge. It looks like this:

Scan this QR code on that scanner to the right of the sliding doors that looks like a helium tank:

Inside, the lounge is almost identical to the business lounge with the exception of an extra hot food choice. It felt like the Senator Lounge was more crowded than the business lounge.

Finally, note that internet worked very well in the lounge and restrooms and showers are available. The lounge is open daily from 5:00a.m. to 10:00p.m.

CONCLUSION

Compared to Paris or Milan, this is an excellent Lufthansa lounge. While the Singapore, United, and Air Canada lounges are all excellent as well, if you are departing out of Zone A at LHR Terminal 2, I would just stick to the Lufthansa Lounge.

I was in this Senator lounge last week around 11 am; not very crowded then and as you say plenty of food and drink. I found it quite quiet and refreshing.

Are you sure that the LH lounge has showers? I thought that it was the only one of the *A lounges (actually, it might be the only one out of ALL the lounges) in LHR T2 that didn’t.

I’m pretty sure there are no showers, LH website also omits showers in the description.

@malaysiaairlines just announced it would retire i @malaysiaairlines just announced it would retire its A380 fleet. While not surprising, it is sad to see the growing list of carriers retiring this superjumbo jet. On Malaysia Airlines, I flew the #A380 once from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to London (LHR) and had the entire first class cabin to myself (full review on the blog). It was a beautiful flight that I will always remember.
