Next Stop: Easter Island on LAN

Matthew Klint Posted onMarch 14, 2012December 9, 2016 8 Comments

Last fall, when British Airways massively devalued its Executive Club program, I went on a booking frenzy in the final hours of old award chart and booked a number of trips, including an 80K business class trip on LAN to the Easter Islands. Now the travel date has arrived.

I’ve flown LAN a number of times in economy class, but this will be my first time in business class. I am on a United p.s. flight to JFK this morning, then I will fly to Lima and Easter Island, stay a couple days, then fly back to Miami, where I’ll then pick up a separate ticket to go hopping across the country (a topic of another post).

I’ve got the whole day in Lima tomorrow, but I don’t plan to leave the airport—sadly, I am drowning in both award consulting and law school work, so I cannot say this week will be much of a vacation.

But I’m still looking forward to it.

LIM has my favorite airline lounge in the world, hopefully grenadillas are in season!

Looks like you had a much better breakfast spread than I did. No kiwis, berries, and yes, grenadillas, for me! But plenty of fresh-squeezed orange juice!

The SUMAQ is a pathetic lounge if you’re there at night. Overcrowded, bad food, and impolite lounge dragons. For my LIM-IPC and LIM-JFK flights, I stopped in for only a few minutes to grab a drink, then waited in the concourse (where the wifi is better)

Hope you have a great trip! I worked Rapa Nui into my 313-day RTW trip last year and loved every minute of the 8-day stop I had there. Watch out for those food prices though, prepared food was shockingly expensive! I’ve got quite a bit of material on my travel blog about Easter Island and how we divided our time there:

Easter Island is awesome – I just came back (and blogged a bit about it). I flew LAX-MIA-EZE-SCL-IPC-LIM-JFK.

I biked the island for a day and then used an organized tour there. It’s really pretty – like Stonehenge and Hawaii mixed up in one place. Enjoy!

I flew to L.A. business class on Christmas Day with British Airways and it was like a totally amazing experience, hope you enjoyed the flight!

I am taking the same JFK-LIM flight in J in a few days and have a quick question. On your check-in for your JFK-LIM flight, do you really have to be there 3 hours early as their online pre-checkin states?

@Chris G – one hour is more than enough.
