It was a dark and stormy night in Sydney. We had checked in late to the Park Hyatt Sydney after our train ride from Canberra and were cold.
Small problem. Our heater in the room didn’t work. And the hotel was running full…
We were assigned a king bed room with harbour view. The room was comfortable, but certainly on the cold side. The thermostat appeared to function, but after about an hour there was still no warm air coming out.
We requested maintenance and the hotel promptly sent someone up. A duo of engineers spent nearly 45 minutes in the room, finally stating they could not pinpoint the problem but would bring reinforcements in the morning.
Easy solution, right? Move to another room. But the hotel truly was full. Instead, with a profuse apology, the hotel sent up extra blankets and promised a new room in the morning.
The following morning after breakfast we were escorted to our new room: a very nice upgrade to a Opera View Deluxe King, overlooking the iconic Sydney Opera House.
An unorthodox upgrade to be sure, but what a lovely new room!
CONCLUSION
The Park Hyatt Sydney is perhaps the finest hotel in the Hyatt portfolio.
Shortly, I’ll be publishing a two-part review of the property, one covering a standard room and the hotel restaurants and amenities, the second covering the Opera View Deluxe King.
Our second room had a maintenance issue as well…it seemed to be a recurring theme.
But let’s be honest, I was very happy our heat went out. It was worth it for the upgrade.
Good for you. The Park Hyatt Sydney is a very nice hotel and I’ve enjoyed beautiful rooms and experiences there. However, when a cruise ship is docked nearby the hotel pool area looks like the Lido deck and is to be avoided.
That is such a beautiful view!
I am in sydny now and doing bit of hotel hopping (park hyatt, four seasons, and the langham)… interested to read your review. I was bit underwhelmed by park hysatt to be honest. The scale just seemed off. Check in counter is about 12’ from cab line and perhaps it was bad timing but always felt like grand central station with people everywhere! Not the most relaxing atmosphere! The langham i have found to be a much superior hotel, albeit without the view. The four seasons has best f&b options, location, and amazing opera house views but a bit dated… wish i could comvine the 3! Haha
