It has been a rough week. Fires are scorching California and a deadly shooting killed 12. On a far lesser note, the travel news has also been predominantly negative. So let’s just take a quick pause from the bad news and reflect upon a remarkable gesture of humanity by a flight attendant on Philippine Airlines.
There are few things worse than boarding a flight and realizing that you forgot something important. But when it is something as essential as food for your baby, the problem becomes even worse.
Flight attendant Patrisha Organo noticed that a baby was crying uncontrollably on a PAL Express flight she was working. As the mother of a nine-month-old herself, she recognized the cry of hunger. But when she checked on the baby, she found the baby’s mother had no food left. The pair had been sitting in the airport since 9:00 P.M. the previous evening and the formula was now gone.
With no formula onboard, the flight attendant offered to breastfeed the baby herself. A grateful mother accepted.
Organo describes her thoughts in this way:
You know the difference between a cry of hunger, a cry of sleepiness, or a cry of something else. The helplessness you feel when you cannot feed your hungry child is horrible, so I had to step in.
As soon as the baby started feeding from me, I saw the relief on the mother’s eyes and eventually her daughter fell asleep. I could only imagine the chaos of those feelings, but as a mother myself I knew the stress she would’ve been going through.
I wish to normalize breastfeeding because how could you breastfeed the child in the [restroom]? Do you guys eat in the [restroom]? It’s an unnatural way to feed a baby.
CONCLUSION
While I wish it had been the mother and not the FA herself boasting about this incident, it nevertheless remains a remarkable testament to the gift of human love.
Back to bitter reality, I suppose, but what a wonderful gesture this was.

Amazing story! This could never happen in our country since disease passes through breast milk and the mother who didn’t feed her child would sue someday saying the baby caught a disease through breast milk. In the US these days it seems no good deed goes unpunished.
How is this being a hero. It’s utterly disgusting to have some random woman feeding a baby with her breast milk. People seriously need to grow up nowadays. Not just pointing the finger at you Matthew, it’s been all over the media labelled in this fashion.

I have nursed my friends children and my nephews when their mothers were sick or unable to make enough milk. it’s perfectly natural and a great gift. people need to get over themselves and realize we are mammals and the female of our species are very well equipped to feed our and other infant young. it’s actually incredibly gratifying to help a young innocent by feeding him with your body. people who are grossed out, or hypersexualized over breastfeeding need to grow up. I guess had there not been a nursing mother on that plane they could have warned some milk either cow or soy and fed the child. for anyone who has not felt the cry of a hungry baby, you may not know just what kind of reaction it stirs in most female humans who have cared for or birthed babies. that cry puts every instinct we have on high alert and makes feeding the infant priority one. so while the judgy mcjudgesters sit looking annoyed and wish the mother could shut the crying child up, someone did. she selflessly did so without concern for anyone but helping a baby,we should all pause for a moment and take a page from her book. Good on her!
It is a humanity thing to do. I will acknowledge she is the Hero here. The PAL FA just there to help and coincidently she also has a baby below 1 yo. Some people think this is DISGUSTING because they don’t come accross this situation before and very FUSSY on everthing that they are perfect what can be done. I hope that answer your question MR G.
