I’m live-blogging my SAS EuroBonus SkyTeam Milion Mile challenge this week. Click here for background and route information.
I’m not sure I will ever understand why Air Europa does not operate its own lounge(s) at its Madrid hub, but we had a brief and pleasant stay at the Puerta de Alcalá lounge in Madrid (MAD), a 24/7 Priority Pass Lounge.
Puerta De Alcalá Lounge Madrid Review (MAD)
In my case, I pulled out my Priority Pass card but was told that was not needed because of my SkyTeam Elite Plus status: this is the lounge that SkyTeam elites can use when departing Madrid.
The lounge is located in Terminal 2 near gate D62 (Schengen Zone) and is open 24/7 daily. Take an elevator up to the lounge:
At just after 11:00 am, the lounge was not crowded and I appreciated that the breakfast spread was still out, since I broke my fast here ahead of the light.
The rectangular-shaped lounge has a dining area in the middle and seating on either side with six chairs facing each other and end tables with power outlets between chairs.
In the rear of the lounge, there is a “quiet” room with eight chairs but only four ottomans.
Breakfast included Spanish-style omelets (yum), fresh fruit, and a big make-your-own sandwich bar, which I did…with ham and chorizo and Iberico ham plus cheese.
There were also pre-packaged sandwiches as well as yogurt and pudding in a larger refrigerator.
Beer, wine, spirits, water, juice, coffee, and tea were available.
I think the coffee machines in Spain are generally horrible because the milk tastes like it has sugar added…so much so that I will not even bother. Thankfully, I found a place near the lounge that had freshly squeezed orange juice and a nice cortado…
Showers and restrooms are available. The shower suite is locked and you’ll need to request access at reception.
CONCLUSION
While not my favorite lounge, I enjoyed my brunch here and was thankful for lounge access before my flight.
You have to get on the alternative “milks”. Oat almond etc. excluding the barrister versions they have a lot less sugar.
Looking forward to the next set of updates. Hope auggie going well. My son and I have been doing sudokus and iPad escape games together in the airport to pass time.
