A Restful Flight on Qatar Airways A330 Business Class

Matthew Klint Posted onOctober 24, 2017November 14, 2023 1 Comment

By the time it came to board my Qatar Airways flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Doha, I was exhausted. I had slept poorly all week and just wanted to have dinner, watch a movie, and nap on the eight hour evening flight to DOH.

In this case, I was almost thankful there was no wi-fi onboard, one less distraction that would hinder my sleep. The business class seats and cabin layout onboard are identical to the A340 I flew last year between Colombo and Doha. In fact, the seats were identical to the Ethiopian Airlines business class seats I had enjoyed from Addis Ababa to Bangkok the day before.

It was 7pm and the sun had already set. The cabin was dimmed to mood-lighting, already putting me in the bedtime mood.

After a nice conversation with my gregarious seatmate, we settled in for the flight, taking off just after scheduled departure time. The storm had passed.

A Qatar Airways Feast

The onboard feast began. Mixed nuts and lemon-mint juice to begin. The table was laid for dinner.

Next up, an amuse bouche of chicken dolloped in avocado with a spicy salsa.

Qatar Airway’s tomato soup has been a favorite of mine for years and it was delicious on this flight also–

Qatar also manages a much better mezze than either Emirates or Etihad in my experience:

For the main course, I enjoyed a wonderful breaded chicken breast with linguini and asparagus. The menu indicated a pesto sauce on the pasta but it was olive oil instead with tomato sauce on top of the chicken. Nevertheless, it was still very tasty.

Finally, chocolate for dessert with vanilla ice cream and cappuccino. The cappuccino was served in a styrofoam cup because the seatbelt light was on.

A couple other notes. First, I enjoyed the pajamas the London-based White Company.

Second, the Brics amenity kit was pink in color and contained pink socks and a pink eyeshade. I don’t have a problem with wearing pink, but I’m not sure about these socks…

Service was good, the food was great, I even enjoyed The Circle with Tom Hanks and Emma Watson. But the true joy of the flight was six hours of sleep. Oh, how I appreciated that.

I’ll have more details on the flight in my full review.
