Economy Class Breakfast On Qatar Airways

Matthew Klint Posted onJune 7, 2025June 7, 2025 8 Comments

Each week, my Meal of the Week feature examines an airline meal from my travels over the years. This may be a meal from earlier in the week or it may be a meal served over a decade ago.

This week’s Meal of the Week explores what economy class breakfast looks like on Qatar Airways.

We go back to January 2015 for this flight, the last time I flew economy class on Qatar. It was a very special flight indeed; the first commercial flight of Airbus A350. I decided to join the flight at the very last minute or else I would have booked a cheap Cairo to Frankfurt via Doha ticket like so many bloggers in the forward cabin did. By the time I bought a ticket just a few days before the flight, only economy class was left.

No matter, it was still a thrilling flight to be part of.

After takeoff, breakfast service began. My breakfast included a croissant, strawberry yogurt, sliced fruit, orange juice, and a main course of a cheese omelet with a hash brown, cooked tomato slice, mushrooms, and chicken sausage.

Perhaps the FAs were still figuring out the new aircraft’s ovens because the meal was not served as warm as I would have liked. I appreciated that Qatar used real silverware.

The other two breakfast choices were pancakes or an Indian vegetarian breakfast. You can read my full of the flight here.

CONCLUSION

I generally don’t find economy class to be anything special on Gulf carriers but do expect generally better presentation and often more choice.

Was it any good? Just curious as to why you are highlighting this.

And to be fair, I think their economy food is above average.

It wasn’t great, but mostly because it was served lukewarm.

I am thoroughly confused by this review. Were you happy with the breakfast or not? The last comments are “I generally don’t find economy class to be anything special on Gulf carriers but do expect generally better presentation and often more choice.” but there was nothing else that supported these comments. Based on the pictures, it looks decent to me for an economy breakfast.

I appreciate the full service on Gulf carriers, but I thought this breakfast was nicely presented but lacking in taste and temperature.

Um…nice cutlery? Are the ovens that different?

I agree,.,,,,,,.What is the final evaluation of this meal ? Tepid meal ( – ), silverware ( + ) … Sadly economy breakfasts are so predictably identical, and barely acceptable.
Kudos to QR for offering ‘roach’ pax a choice of THREE options. Would be curious to see the Indian veggie one ( I admittedly didn’t read your related complete flight review ).
I’d imagine these options weren’t offered on that ‘gifted’ Qatari 747-8 !

I’ve had that breakfast on Qatar before many times and it is always good, as are the other two options and frankly all of the meals I have had on Qatar have been good. Catering is of course slightly better out of Doha and their major focus destinations (for example, the economy meals out of JFK have always been better in my experience compared to my home airport of Miami on Qatar).

The one possible critique is that Qatar doesn’t really change it’s meal options up. Matthew said he had this breakfast in 2015, my first time flying QR was in 2018 and I had the same breakfast out of JFK to DOH. I continued to see that same exact option until a few years ago when Qatar introduced is “Quisine” concept dining. They still have a dish like this but it has slightly different accompaniments. I guess the good thing is that you know what to expect, and that the catering kitchens around the world prepping QR meals know exactly what to do and how to get it right.
