Pathetic: Twentysomethings Bark Orders At Their Mother In Hotel Dining Room

I cannot resist commenting on this…and do so as an admonition to parents everywhere–myself included–that we must take the time to raise our children well from a very early age. A foundation of consistency and accountability at an early age lays the groundwork for success later on.

A Sad Sight At The Hotel Breakfast Table

Picture Tweedledee and Tweedledum. We were at the Hyatt Place in Glendale and went downstairs for breakfast. There, we ended up sitting next to a family of four.

There was a mother, father, and two boys, both in their early 20s (or else teenagers aging very badly). Both were obese, one with long matted hair, one with shorter hair, and both with patchy beards, as if they never groomed themselves. Both had headsets on with microphones, the kind of things video gamers use. And indeed, both were playing video games on their mobile phones.

All of a sudden, one shrieked out, “MOM! GET ME SOME WAFFLES!”

The poor mother, a small woman who looked to be in her 50s, jumped up into action, ran to the buffet, and came back with a waffle on a plate.

“I WANT ORANGE JUICE!” yelled the kid in response.

The other one was picking his nose relentlessly with one hand while fully engaged in his phone with the other hand.

She brought him a waffle too on a separate plate and he just put his (nose picking) hand in his mother’s face, as if to push her away.

But then he yelled, “FRUIT!” and the mother quickly went to the buffet again.

When my daughter and I got up to return to the buffet, the kid said, “Why is there a f*cking baby here?”

Later on, the boys totally ignored their mother as she cleaned up the mess they had made on the table. No helping hand. Certainly No “thank you.” They just sat there engrossed in their video game.

These boys did not appear mentally handicapped. Even if they were, it was certainly not to the extent that they were unable to function like a child who has to clean up after himself. They were disgusting.

Where was the dad? Built like his boys, he was also sitting there engrossed in his mobile phone not paying any attention to his wife or kids. He also did not move an inch as his poor wife cleaned up the table (at this Hyatt Place, you are encouraged to bus your own breakfast dishes). He also did not even say “thank you” when his wife brought him a cup of coffee.

This is not about poking fun at another family. It was unnerving to me because it was so open and notorious. It is why we don’t have a TV at home and I struggle with letting the kids have any screen time at all. Zombies…

Because these two boys appeared totally unfit for society precisely at the age when, historically at least, young people should sprout their wings and fly. Who is going to want be their partner? Who is going to even want to spend time with them? And on the flip side, their lack of any sort of social grace, especially in the way they treated their mother, showed an indifference to life that will leave them behind in this culture.

I hope I’m wrong. I hope they are the next Steve Wozniak or Doug Fregin. But you don’t treat your mother like this. You don’t act like a pig and expect to be considered any differently.

Pathetic and despicable. The truth is that parents enabled this behavior, so they are responsible for how their boys turned out. Unfortunately, should these boys have any offsprings the cycle will continue…

I’d say it’s unlikely these two are interested in offspring or, more specifically, how one produces offspring.

You can google what a “reddit mod” or a “discord mod” looks like. They likely match very closely what you had just described

Farm animals have better manners. Nature only allows some misbehavior before being corrected by a bite. You reap what you sow.

It reminds me of the Last Battle (CS Lewis) when talking creatures lose their ability to speak. While these are still human beings that have inherent dignity, it is really tough to consider them remotely civilized and fit for human interaction.

After the baby remark, I fear I would have said something. It is a shame society now has live with such disgusting fools

The parents just need to drive their spawn down the coast to San Diego and have them step onto some yellow footprints. The fine people at MCRD San Diego will be sure to do their best to solve this behavioral problem.

Perhaps Matthew could have had a talk with the mother? He could mention how she appears to be bossed around from the view of the observer.

My mother would have sought an opportunity to approach this woman, offer to buy a drink and listen to her life story. Agape love is practiced one human being at a time.

You can take the boy out of the trailer park but you can’t take the trailer park out of the boy.

I believe someone once wisely opined that “if you raise your kids, you can spoil your grandchildren, but if you spoil your kids, you’ll be raising your grandchildren.

My guess, they behave like their same sex role model, their father.

Poor woman, they will probably never leave home.

“These boys did not appear mentally handicapped.” I bet you they were. It is a lost generation.

Even if they were, they were not handicapped to the extent that they could not be kind to their mother or refrain from cursing or eating like dogs.

When one asked “why is there a f***ing baby here?” That would probably be my cue to reply, “She is behaving better than you” .

Sadly this is what flight crews now have to deal with day in and day out and the volumes are increasing daily. I always think the FAs that can still manage to smile and be kind are saints at this point.

One upside is that the mother was getting food from the buffet, an not the nose picking spoiled basement dwellers.

My suggestion… those immigrants who walk 3000 miles to get to our southern border, we let them in on the condition they join the military for a period of 4 years. After which they get full citizenship. And while serving their immediate family can live in the US.

And for each one of them we let in, we put a kid like the ones you describe on a one way flight to Venezuela with $20 in their pocket and no phone.

I’m not actually joking. The security of our country is in jeopardy precisely because of young adults like these. Who would you rather share a foxhole with? The kid who fought his whole life to survive and walked 3000 miles to get to America or one of these 2?
