Are we supposed to feel sorry for a dude who was too cheap to pay for a carry-on bag on Ryanair and was therefore forced to empty the contents of that bag and carry the clothes onboard in his arm? What did he expect when flying Ryanair?

Ryanair is a so-called “ultra-low-cost carrier” (ULCC). It makes no effort to hide that your base ticket comes with a seat onboard (not a particular seat, just a seat) along with personal items that fits under the seat in front of you. That’s it. Everything else you have to pay for.
A guy named Graeme Macaskill was traveling from Malaga (AGP) to Glasgow (GLA) and his small carry-on bag (with wheels) did not fit in the sizer. He was told he could pay to check it or carry it onboard, or leave it behind. He opted to take his clothes out of the bag and carry them on the plane.
“So we’re here on a Ryanair flight. They say I can’t carry this bag on. I have to empty the case and carry my clothes on by hand onto this plane. What an outrageous suggestion.”
Well, no. The only outrageous thing is Macaskill’s entitlement. Live by the sword, die by the sword: you buy a ticket on Ryanair and you better know what you are getting yourself into.

TikTok videos always make me wonder what is real and what is fake. In this case, because of the interaction with the gate agent and flight attendants onboard, it seems somewhat plausible, but what a joke. Pay up or dump your stuff, buddy.
I like the Ryanair business model (like the Spirit business model in the USA). It’s good for consumers and good for the system. As long as there is clear disclosure during booking of the relevant carry-on policies, there is no room for complaint.
CONCLUSION
A rube was upset that he had to pay for his carry-on bag. Sir, that’s why your ticket is less than your cab ride to the airport. Ryanair is not for everyone, but if you know what you are getting yourself into, it’s really not a bad thing.

That being said, I agree with Matt and the least he should have done is packed the clothes in a big plastic bag in his carry-on so if something happened (to protect my stuff if nothing else) but also a great backup in case something like this happens.
I’m facing a similar conundrum to visit my mother. The three of us traveling and Frontier has a great fare and route, everything else costs twice as much, but $110 for a bag roundtrip. Not sure our stuff is worth that much. Will pack in small backpacks and have lots of bags and get through it.
The moron was probably flying back home. You see the flight is going back to Glasgow and this kind of behavior is what you expect from anyone from Great Britain. Thus, I can guarantee you he was bringing dirty underwear back home or did you expect him to do laundry before flying home?
As fro your conundrum, I booked my family summer vacation to Europe and I had the option to land in Europe and take a non-stop flight to my final destination on Ryanair or have a connection on a flight in a regular carrier which added more hours and was 10 times more expensive. I didn’t think twice in taking a regular carrier. I worked with cattle for many years and cattle is treated way better that people are treated at budget carriers.
I find that interesting in that if he’s flying back home, how did he fly to his destination with that bag? Maybe switched carriers? A cost factor of 10X tempts me, I appreciate your concerns. We will probably deal with it. Still fare searching.
Regaring dirty laundry (great song by Don Henley, by the way..) An ex-girlfriend of mine was married to an Air Force officer who was stationed in Germany and as a bachelor, he found it cheaper to buy his underwear at the base PX, sell it soiled to a German 2nd hand goods shop, then buy a brand new pairs rather than launder them.
In the very least, the, ahem, gentleman could have offered to hand over his carry on bag in exchange for a big plastic shopping bag from another passenger.

I never pay Ryanair baggage charges. I admit what he did was a bit extreme, and that he should have researched the bag sizes, but at the end of the day, now he’s an international megastar. I’ve seen this story all over the place. Good on ya fella.

Here is a journalist trying to shame an individual for not wanting to spend money and perhaps saving money for a better cause. Maybe he donates that extra money or uses it to help his sick poor grandmother. I travel carry on only not to save money, but because I trust the inmates at the local prison more than bag handlers. I would happily pay more to ensure i could carry my pack on, if for some reason it were deemed to big (it never has been). In fact, I’d happily buy a seat just for my bag, if that’s what it takes to keep it out of the hands of the magical disappearing bag check team.
For Christ’s sake! Enough is enough. Airlines need to enforce carry on restriction regulations. I’ve seen people bring just short of a streamliner trunk on board with no interference by the gate agent or cabin crew. Allot of that crap become obstacles on the floor following an emergency landing.
Being cheap was the least of this passenger’s offenses. More so than over sized and too many carry-ons, the last thing I was to deal with on an airplane is somebody else’s laundry, clean, dirty or otherwise.
