Review: Safari Comfort Lounge Mombasa Airport (MBA)

We stopped at the domestic Safari Comfort Lounge ahead of our flight to Nairobi, a Priority Pass Lounge at Moi International Airport in Mombasa (MBA).

Safari Comfort Lounge Review Mombasa (MBA)

The lounge is located prior to security, despite what the Priority Pass website says. You proceed up the stairs from the check-in hall and you will find the lounge just prior to the security checkpoint. There is no passport control in this part of Terminal 1 because the lounge is intended for domestic flights.

It is open daily from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm and is also the business class lounge used by Kenya Airways.

The entrance to the lounge is on a balcony of the terminal. After your credentials are scanned, you can proceed straight down to a semi-outdoor seating area with a bar (liquor is NOT complimentary) or you can proceed inside.

It was very hot and sticky outside, so I greatly appreciated the air conditioning cranking inside.

The lounge is small, featuring two rooms wtih seats.

Food and drink selection included hot coffee, water, juice, sot drinks, sliced watermelon, sandwiches, danish, and two hot items: chicken and potatoes. The chicken did not look bad, but I had to wonder how long it had been sitting there considering it was not even 8:00 am.

There is much better coffee available in the domestic terminal waiting area.

Restrooms were located in the lounge…no showers.

CONCLUSION

Kenya is hot during the summer and the terminal itself only has fans. That alone makes this lounge an oasis worth stopping for ahead of your flight. But at the same time, the better option is likely just to show up as close to departure as possible.

The lounge leàves a lot to be desired. The food is very subpar and the Wi-Fi network a bit weak. The food is usually a sandwich but is basically a bun with the thinnest piece of lettuce and tomato for vegetarian and a small piece of cold meat for regular.

The BEST thing is to show up 45 minutes before the flight ay check in. That way, you skip the lounge and head straight to boarding the aircraft.
