In a move that may become increasingly common in the years ahead, female flight attendants at one Ukrainian airline are trading their high heels and skirts for pants and Nike sneakers.
SkyUp Champions, New Uniforms For A New Era
SkyUp Airlines is Ukraine’s largest carrier. I recently debuted its new “Champions” uniform, which includes:
- GUDU orange pants suits
- Nike Air Max 720 sneakers
- Italian tan leather trench coats
- Silk scarves

SkyUp’s Head of Marketing, Marianna Grigorash, explained:
“Times have changed, women have changed, so in contrast to the conservative classics, heels, red lipstick and a bun, a new, more modern and comfortable image of a ‘champion’ has appeared.”
Presenting the new uniforms on Instagram, SkyUp further shared:
The new uniform is created for active, bold, bright; those who do not like excessive formality, but appreciate style; react quickly, act prudently, accept challenges and find a way out of any situation. These are clothes for those open to the new, those who love travel and life…
We were inspired by the colors of the sky, which can be seen from the cockpit. Professionals…have developed a gentle gradient with a soft orange, like at sunset, and blue, like at dawn, colors. The make-up is natural with an emphasis on the eyes. The new image provides options for hairstyles – a variety of weaves that replace the classic beam flight attendant.
That’s fairly serious analysis for a flight attendant uniform…
SkyUp claims flight attendants were in “seventh heaven” when the new uniforms were introduced last month. To complement the new pant suits and sneakers are Italian leather trench coats and silk scarves.
Finally, each SkyUp “heavenly angel” (their words, not mine) will receive a “juicy” orange suitcase from Have A Rest. The “beauties” (their words, not mine) will debut the new uniforms this fall.
CONCLUSION
Ukrainian airline SkyUp is replacing skirts and high heels with pants and shoes. I rather like the new uniforms, though didn’t mind the old ones either.

I never understood how a flight attendant that is supposedly there to ensure safety of all passengers including in the case of an emergency evacuation can wear high heels on the job? I have seen flight attendants wearing high heel boots zipped up to their knees. How can that be safe if they really need to do their job?
The new uniforms are safer in an emergency.
White sneakers seem to be the on trend fashion it item in Europe this summer. Women seem to be wearing them with everything, not just as casual attire. These uniforms look great and are certainly more comfortable.
The current ones look amazing; the new ones not so much. It looks like a pool attendant’s uniform at a hipster gym.
At least they don’t have to don a vest to go down to get their crew bag from fwd bin. Look these girls are smoking hotties and this airline knows how to hire!

Those flight attendants will look great no matter what they wear; the f/a´s here in the US are a VERY different story…
As long as the flight attendants continue to look like this, it doesn’t matter what they wear. Europe is known for putting young and healthy men and women in customer facing hospitality jobs. It does make a difference for a hotel receptionist or flight attendant to be young, vibrant, and fresh. When they get older they move on to office jobs better suited for raising a family. One male and female out of the bunch will stay on as purser into their forties. The U.S. is the opposite. The worst demographics fill the hotel receptions in the cities and on flights. U.S. flight attendants are rated the worst at performing service and being kind and considerate because they get a lot of terrible demographics. In addition, we have flight attendants staying on into their 60s.
Great idea. It’s about comfort, safety and service. It’s not a fashion show.
