Disgruntled Guest Smashes Sports Car Into Hotel Lobby In Anger Over Lost Laptop

An angry hotel guest smashed his sports car into a hotel lobby in Shanghai, blaming the hotel for losing his laptop.

Angry Over His Missing Laptop, Guest Smashed Car Into Hotel Lobby

The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at the Shanghai Grand Trustel Purple Mountain Hotel in China. Without warning, a white convertible with the top up broke through glass and into the hotel lobby, before spinning around and backing into the lobby. It then drove haphazardly through the lobby before coming to a stop as hotel staff and guests yelled at the guest to stop.

In a video that captured the incident, onlookers can be heard stating, “He’s going nuts!” and “Do you have any idea what you’ve done? Are you crazy? Are you?”

The driver was a 28-year-old man named Chen. Police were dispatched to the scene and arrested him. It was later revealed that the motive for his attack was a dispute with hotel staff over a missing laptop. Chen had been a hotel guest when his laptop went missing.

According to the Straits Times, the hotel staff later clarified that his laptop had been stolen, but then found outside the hotel.

CONCLUSION

Ironically, the hotel recovered his stolen laptop but it will be Chen who winds up in jail for letting his temper get the better of him. Note to self: there are many ways to complain about poor hotel service, but driving your car into the lobby is not one of them. Chen’s antics may give him his 15 minutes of fame, but that sort of notoriety is not to be envied.

I can’t imagine being busted for anything in China. Chen may never be seen again.

So he’s going to do a little time. Big whoop. Who needs a convertible in Shanghai anyway? It’s either too cold, or too polluted to put your top down. He recovered his laptop, so I’d say the ends justify the means. Next time Marriott gives me a bagel and a bottle of water and calls it breakfast, maybe I’ll crash my rented Nissan Altima right in to the hotel’s lobby. What do you think about that, Mr. Capuano?!

      Good one, Jerry.

Please don’t crash into the Marriott lobby over the bagel & water breakfast! You would be charged the drive thru fee!
