Where To Smoke At Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport (CDG)

Matthew Klint Posted onApril 26, 2025April 25, 2025 16 Comments

When it comes to smoking, Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) is rather smoker-friendly, with many designated smoking areas scattered throughout the airport.

Smoking At CDG Airport

There is no official smoking guide on the airport website, though terminal maps do indicate where smoking areas are present. Just note that at CDG there are many smoking areas past-security and you just have to keep an eye out for the orange smoking signs.

Piecing together bits of information from internet forums, there are smoking areas in the following areas:

  • Terminal 1
    • level 10
    • boarding level, near gates 50-58
    • level 11
    • Star Alliance Lounge
  • Terminal 2A
    • next to Fauchon Restaurant
  • Terminal 2C
    • near McDonald’s
  • Terminal 2D
    • boarding level, near gates 62-63
    • downstairs, near gate 58
  • Terminal 2E
    • walkway connecting 2F to 2E Hall L
    • boarding level
      • K45
      • K37
      • L21
      • L53
      • M31
      • M50
  • Terminal 2F
    • boarding level, near gate F46
    • downstairs, near F21 and exit to baggage claim
  • Terminal 2G
    • near Espace Business lounge
  • Terminal 3
    • boarding level, near gate 8

I’ve walked past several of these during my visits to CDG. One was downstairs in Terminal 2F and labeled as a “new” smoking area:

a glass door with a sign on it

a glass door with a sign on it

a room with a table and benches

a room with a wall and a sign

a cigarette on a metal surface

a cigarette butts on a black round ashtray

a room with a table and trash cans

a sign on a wall

On my way to Terminal 2E Hall L, I passed another smoking area.

In Terminal 1, there’s a smoking area in the non-Schengen area on the third floor next to the Star Alliance Lounge…it even has a great view.

Inside the Star Alliance Lounge, there is a smoking terrace:

The Star Alliance Lounge in the Schengen area pf Terminal 1 also has a smoking area in the garden area.

And a personal request. I write these smoking guides even though I am a non-smoker to try to keep people from smoking outside airport entrances. Understand that when you smoke there, everyone walking by inhales your smoke. However, when you use the designated areas, no one smells it except those who choose to be there.

CONCLUSION

I am not a smoker, but do provide these guides in an effort to help smokers and reduce second-hand smoke. My views on smoking at airports remain unchanged.

For SkyTeam flyers, Paris Roissy CDG is a much friendlier airport for smokers than Amsterdam AMS, which closed all its smoking rooms in 2020.

LOL, like a smoker’s guide will stop smokers from lighting up outside entrances. The vast majority of smokers don’t give a chit about anyone else.

It might, if you know where the lounges are you can head straight to them once you’re done with check in and security.

Being a smoker that is exactly what I do. I drop my bag off (if I have one),head through security and go for a smoke. I do not smoke outside entrances…

Yes, if there’s a designated area that smokers are aware of, most will indeed choose that option. Will a few cigarette smokers do it outside the entrances? I think that’s inevitable – but if you enforce not smoking there while providing good alternatives where they can smoke without hassle, 99% will comply.

I appreciate Matthew’s attitude here; let those who smoke have a place to do so without disturbing those who don’t. Clearly (based on my handle) I’m a bit biased. However, I only enjoy fine cigars and don’t go near cigarettes (nasty). Personally, I prefer to enjoy my cigars as far away from everyone else as possible so as not to be a jerk. And I think many other smokers feel the same way.

IDK, I read somewhere recently that “The vast majority of smokers don’t give a chit about anyone else”.

We should encourage more young kids to smoke. Tobacco companies are the closest thing to a guaranteed cash cow.

All you losers that have popped out more than 2 kids, at least encourage a few of your kids to take up smoking. Make your oversized brood be of some use to society.

But if it was pot, I’m sure you’d wholeheartedly be in support of that. Even though it’s every bit as nasty and is actually far worse for society.

Thanks Matthew. As a smoker, it is quite nice to smoke past security on a connection instead of going landside & finding an appropriate place to light up – because I’m considerate of others around me. Then of course, recleaning security (looking at you clear!) & Further burdening the security situation. On an international transfer, it’s even more complicated if I need visas, covid docs, etc. I wish there were more of the smoking pods or terraces (IST) stateside for sure.

Hello, just a minor correction. At CDG, the smoking area in 2E that you have marked as M21 should actually be M31. They’re close enough together, but it is an extra five minute walk if you’re at gate M21 (or in my case, gate M24 which is directly across from M21).

Tobacco kills 8,000,000 humans every year. Tobacco Cartels buy politicians to sustain this genocide. Governments do not build free sex areas in airports for those who cannot survive for a few hours without sex. Smoke on your own property and don’t poison others.

What I really appreciated in CDG is that you also have smoking areas at arrival before Passport control.
Sometimes after a long flight you really need a cigarette right after landing.
