Man Smokes Cigarette On Plane, Receives Ridiculous Punishment

If you knew that smoking on the plane would only result in a 15-day ban on the airline, would you smoke? A viral video and the ridiculous punishment the passenger received raises questions over aviation safety in India.

Ridiculous Punishment For Smoking On SpiceJet Flight In India Invites Others To Smoke Too

The incident took place in January 20, 2022 onboard a SpiceJet flight Dubai (DXB) to New Delhi (DEL). “Social media influencer” Bobby Kataria posted a video of himself smoking onboard. His video went viral.

A video viral in social media raises serious questions about the Aviation Safety

A person named Bobby Kataria is seen in video, sitting inside the flight and smoking cigarette .

All this came as a surprise to SpiceJet. Amazingly, the flight attendants did not even notice that Kataria had smoked onboard. It was only when media inquiries began over the viral video that SpiceJet launched an investigation.

Upon concluding its investigation, SpiceJet banned Kataria for 15 days….that’s it. It issued the following statement:

“The matter was referred to Internal Committee constituted as per provisions of Civil Aviation Requirements on handling of unruly passengers (not consisting of any SpiceJet employee). The said passenger was put on a no-flying list by the airline for 15 days in February 2022.”

Good thing the man didn’t grope a flight attendant or he might have been banned for a while month. What a joke his punishment was. Locking him up for his little stunt may not be appropriate either, but how about a substantial fine and permanent ban on SpiceJet? Don’t actions have consequences?

To me, this whole incident invites copycats. I don’t like giving this punk attention, which is why I am not including any direct social media links, but it is an instructive case in that the failure to punish is emboldening.

CONCLUSION

I’m not only surprised at the light sentence Kataria received, but also by the fact that the flight attendants failed to notice him smoking. How does that happen? Did the passengers around him just ignore his puffs of smoke? Or was this one of those cook a steak in the lavatory toilet tricks and is not even what it seems?

Every time I read “Social media influencer” I immediately picture a looser that is followed by a bunch of morons. And his picture validated my assumptions. Seriously, what type of influence can a person like this have in anyone?

@747always: Is he haunting you? It must be terrifying for you to sleep knowing he has a huge chance to come back in 2024. LOL!!! BTW, I couldn’t care less about him so your words are coming from your ass.

At least learn how to spell loser, first. Not that I disagree with you at all on this specific topic but, c’mon… Use some common sense and a dictionary. Clearly you sort of know how to use the internet – at least to spread vitriol.

Matthew, locking his dumb ass up would ABSOLUTELY be appropriate.

Different places, different punishments. In America, he would be banned for life and fined a million dollars, in which case he would also be laughing at the ridiculous punishment.

Sadly, the social media influencer would be laughing his way to the bank on the monitization of his video and the video about his punishment.

Just a stunt to drum up Clicks and Subscribers…. and don’t forget to smash that “Like” button.
He has new “merch” with a picture of him smoking on the front of a hoodie…quantities are limited….

If he had been forced to pay a hefty fine, he would have whined like a 3rd grader made to eat his vegetables.
Now, that would have worth watching!!!

Wanting people punished or harmed over something trivial does not sound like justice to me. We have gang rapists running around and cops criminalizing speech and Christianity in Europe. We have flight attendants who abuse their power when passengers complain about substandard service. If this is all this guy did, taking a silly picture for social media, a 15 day ban is even too much.

Why do you care? You are not going to visit india or fly on spice jet. Do you think people in US will start smoking on flights?

So why do you care how much he is punished?

Remember several years ago when some member of the Hilton family was caught smoking on a flight and became massively abusive, calling people effing peasants and other lovely things? IIRC he basically got away with it with no repercussions so this example of some douchebag smoking without consequences isn’t a world class shock.

Having some doubts over this. There is no way he is fully smoking a cig on a plane and it’s not being noticed or dealt with. I think he quick lit it up, took two seconds of video and quickly put it out. All for show. Big deal.

Vaping? Sure. People are discreetly vaping on planes all the time. But you don’t fully smoke an actual cig without filling the entire cabin with the smell.
