Tokyo Airport Now Offers Cell Phone Toilet Paper

Matthew Klint Posted onDecember 30, 2016December 30, 2016 3 Comments

tokyo-toilet-paperWe all know the Japanese make the world’s best toilets, but bathrooms at Tokyo Narita are about to get even better!

An extra roll of toilet paper is now available in most stalls at NRT: compact in size. The purpose? To clean your mobile phone!

Paid for by Japanese mobile giant NTT Docomo, the sheets also include information about the firm’s public Wi-Fi networks as well as details about its smartphone travel app.

OK, an advertising gimmick in English. Or perhaps not…

NPR reports that smartphones have five times the number of germs as a toilet seat. That is astounding. Admittedly, I never clean my phone but this new study will make me do so.

Here’s a video on the new “toilet paper” at Narita International:

The compact toilet paper will be available thru March, though if this study is true I hope it remains indefinitely.

As a sidenote, when we remodeled the bathroom in our house I demanded stated my preference for  a Toto toilet with all the bells and whistles. Sure, it would be an investment compared to a $200 Home Depot toilet, but there is nothing like a heated toilet seat with bidet. My wife flat out refused, stating it was unpractical and ugly. Do other people have these arguments?

I have always surmised that mobile telephones are a haven for germs — think remote controls and telephones in hotel rooms as comparable items — but I have always been frustrated that there does not seem to be an effective solution available which truly cleans the telephone without affecting such properties as its oleophobic coating on its surface.

Some people may chide me for being a germophobe — I do not believe I am one in the truest sense — but the mere fact that I have not been sick in years is a testament that I must be doing something right. No, not even a cold — and I am cognizant that that, of course, can always change.

I have written articles about how to prevent oneself from contracting an illness — but while a minimal purpose may be served, I am not convinced that toilet paper for portable electronic devices is part of the solution…

I adore TOTO toilets! You leave cleaner than when you got there. I’m sure if your wife tried it she would love it too. Specially during that time of the month (it makes a world of difference). Or during winter when you are afraid to sit and freeze. Hopefully your whole family loves TOTO one day!

Looking forward to try that new toilet paper as well. Travelling makes phones even dirtier!

The guy that does my plumbing will only install Toto toilet’s. But ours is one of the cheaper ones. Only a couple hundred bucks more than a home depot throne.
