In case the title was not clear, I neither condone unnecessary violence nor revenge, but I am having a hard time feeling sorry for a traffic guard outside Terminal 5 at New York JFK who was attacked by a woman with a baseball bat after slamming a flashlight on her car.
Woman Attacks Punk Traffic Guard Outside JFK Terminal 5 Using Baseball Bat
Speaking generally, society flourishes when we respect those who have been appointed to establish order, like police officers or traffic guards. But that respect is a two-way street conditioned on respect from the officer toward the public. This is why my immigration story in Amsterdam struck such a nerve: do not expect respect when you violate your job duties.
Let’s pivot to New York. From what I can gather, a woman was parked in front of Terminal 5 (JetBlue) for too long and ignored the instruction of the traffic guard (not a cop) to keep moving. In anger, the traffic guard struck the hood of the woman’s car with her flashlight. The driver responded by getting out of her car, walking to the trunk, grabbing a baseball bat, and attacking the traffic guard.

It took two traffic guards and a bystander to pull the woman off.
Obviously we cannot condone the behavior of the driver and she must be held accountable for her actions. On the other hand, the traffic guard is not an innocent bystander and should also be held accountable for her poor behavior beyond just termination.
When United returned (temporarily…) to JFK during the pandemic, I utilized that service quite often and wrote about it. One time I was taking a picture of the terminal and a rent-a-cop quickly approached me and told me that I could not take pictures. I ignored him for a moment, but he was adamant and I looked at him and told him that I would not delete the pictures and that if he had a problem he could call the cops. He backed off…
When you give people power, it is often abused.
I do have another question, though. Who captured that on video? Is everything just a set-up these days? I just have to wonder…
CONCLUSION
An explosive argument that turned violent was captured on video between a driver and traffic guard at New York JFK. There is no excuse for violence, but both the traffic guard and the woman were violent. You don’t strike another person’s car hood, even if you are frustrated.

Ohhh NYC!!!! Why am I not surprised???
BTW, this post plus this article are a few reason I haven’t driven to an airport in the last 10 years.

Agree with you in principle once again, but when you say “do not expect respect when you violate your job duties” -I have to point out that if someone of different skin colour were to speak as you did to the officer in AMS, the consequences could have been very different. In fact, the Fox News crowd always say “if that black person just respected the police officer…”
Based on your other posts, I believe you recognize that challenge, but it’s important to note here.
Agreed.
whatever . Leave your perceived rac1sm out of this
and stop using the “fox news” excuse as it has already sold out to the Bidens
@Not Lucky
Your persecution complex is showing.
One persons persecution complex is another persons ignorance. All good. I hope that you and yours never have to face that reality.
Good on her. Nothing worse than an overconfident rent-a-cop.
Go Granny !!
Why are all these female guards fat and ugly?
Third World people doing Third World things.
And I live in NY, use all three airports on a regular basis, see this kind of nonsense regularly so I know EXACTLY what I’m talking about.
