Trip Report Roadmap: Summer 2021

While I’ve been doing better at staying up to date on my trip reports, I’ve been traveling quite a bit over the last couple months and have fallen behind. Here’s an idea of what to expect on Live and Let’s Fly in terms of trip reports in the days head.

In recent months I’ve been to Central America, Europe, and South America. These trips have been leisure in nature and I’ve enjoyed exploring new places and getting to know new people.

In no particular order, you can look forward to the following trip reports in the days ahead:

  • Brazil – my first visit back in nearly a decade and a wonderful couple days in Sao Paulo. This trip will include restaurant recommendations, flight reviews (on United) and a review of the Grand Hyatt in Sao Paulo.
  • San Pedro Sula – while a bit rough on the edges, this city in Honduras did not seem all that dangerous to me. I enjoyed some wonderful coffee, but really failed in my search for a tasty taqueria.
  • London – I flew to London…for a few hours…in order to use an expiring Virgin Atlantic ticket, of which I just offered my first impressions of the A350-1000 in “Upper Class.” I flew to London on United, including a three-hour connection in rush hour between New York JFK and Newark…
  • Germany – I’m spending much of the summer in Germany and recently took a road trip through Germany’s two southern states, Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. Germany is such a beautiful country and this trip report will include a juxtaposition of accommodations: from humble guest houses to a swanky suite at the Andaz Schwabinger Tor in Munich. We also visited the Dachau Concentration Camp, which was a deeply moving experience.

In addition to these trips, I’ve also completed some domestic travel and will offer a review of United’s 737MAX in first class as well as updated reviews of several United Club lounges in Chicago and Houston.

CONCLUSION

Trip reports are the heart of this blog and I look forward to sharing details with you about my recent travels. While flights are filling up as travel restrictions loosen and borders re-open, this remains an incredible time to travel.

How empty / full are transatlantic flights nowadays?

Eastbound full, westbound not full due to continued travel restrictions against Europeans.

Hope you hit my favorite restaurant spots in Sao Paulo. You should have asked for restaurant recommendations there. Probably one of the best places in the world for cosmopolitan cuisine. Brazil has the largest community of Japanese and Lebanese descendants outside of their home countries and one of the largest Italian communities in the world so restaurants from those cuisines are absolutely amazing there.

We might’ve been on the same Virgin Atlantic flight if my connection into London hadn’t been canceled… I sat on hold for 2-4 am that morning but managed to get it refunded because of a schedule change. What a mess…

Hey, we live in Munich near the Andaz (so have never stayed in it). Looking forward to recommendations of other places in BW and Bavaria to visit! (Especially since our kids are about the same age as yours, haha)

San Pedro Sula, not tacos but good coffee and desserts in Sobremesa, in the lobby of the Holiday Inn Express, I hope they survived the pandemic.

You should have searched for a baleada in SPS. I had a few great ones in Tegucigalpa in May. It’s a more authentic Honduran take on something resembling a taco. Also, there’s a Flyertalk thread about what to do in Honduran cities. Your insight on SPS might be appreciated.
