US President Donald Trump may have meant one thing, but his select use of capitalization has led to a rather funny alternate interpretation of a recent tweet.
Whether on Twitter or in letters to Nancy Pelosi, Tump often creates proper nouns out of words that traditionally would be left lowercase.
The latest example is a tweet from last night in which the president invokes “Economy Plus”.
….They want to Impeach me (I’m not worried!), and yet they were all breaking the law in so many ways. How can they do that and yet impeach a very successful (Economy Plus) President of the United States, who has done nothing wrong? These people are Crazy!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 18, 2019
It seems clear (enough) that President Trump was talking about the condition of the US economy and its growth under his tenure.
But there’s a difference between “economy plus” and “Economy Plus”…
Economy Plus® is a registered trademark of United Airlines. It denotes United’s extra legroom economy class seats located in the front of the economy cabin.
And that has led to some fairly humorous replies to the President:
Maybe for the impeachment @united can drag you kicking and screaming from “economy plus”…

I would definitely describe you as an “Economy Plus” President.

“Economy Plus” is a weird way to describe yourself. A little better than coach, noticably worse than first class. Mostly a way to get people to pay extra to feel like humans.

Economy Plus is generous for this Basic Economy presidency.

CONCLUSION
Don’t read too much into this post — it’s just a lighthearted response to an odd use of capitalization. Unsurprisingly, United Airlines has no comment on the issue.
Well, he is a dotard in addition to a racist and a cheat…just another day of his mind dump that is his Twitter feed
Blacks and non white latinos commit a disproportionately high amount of violence so if you want to talk about racism first look at groups actually committing physical harm and who also don’t believe in freedom nor that whites are entitled to what every other group in the world from China, Japan, India to Kenya are: a homeland.
OK racist boomer
In this day and age, ALL white people are natural “racists” due to their “privilege”. (Nearly) anything a white person says, or does, can be subjected to a critique that they’re possibly expressing a racist motive. The only way (temporarily) for some white person to clearly avoid being a racist is to accuse some other white person of it.
In other words, a collaborator. Is that better than being a racist? For some, apparently so. In any case, the more the slur is used, one wonders: Does it ever get tired and old?
Then again, I still use the F word on a daily basis. Some things perhaps just can’t effing get tired out.
Waiting for debit…
“The Basic Economy president”! That’s great.
That’s funny
No no, now we don’t capitalize proper nouns and we do capitalize all other nouns. It has been decreed!
Waiting for these new America-specific grammar rules to hit Fox News… Maybe Tucker Carlson can do a piece on it so this newspeak can be properly documented by the White House’s official correspondence factory for all posterity.
This whole impeachment thing is political, the way Democrats are acting and the way Republicans are acting. It is America’s version of a show trial. Very sad for America. At this rate, we don’t need any more “enhancements”.
No need to “both sides” it – Dems are doing their constitutional duty against an occupant of the White House who has been lying and cheating and abusing his power since Day 1….Pubs are just burying their head in the sand.
Better than his tweet about how he’s on such great terms with the Prince of Whales.
Go away some where Matthew… and take your commentators with you
He is more of a last-row-middle-seat on Spirit president
