Parade Over Planes: Trump’s Birthday Bash To Halt Flights At Reagan National Airport

Matthew Klint Posted onJune 6, 2025June 6, 2025 48 Comments

Travelers beware: a large-scale military parade in Washington, DC on President Trump’s 79th birthday will require the closure of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and the delay of over 100 flights.

Washington National Airport (DCA) Will Close On June 14, 2025 For Military Parade

On June 14, 2025 the US Army will hold a military parade to commemorate its 250th anniversary. The date chosen for the parade coincides with President Trump’s 79th birthday and will mark the largest military parade in a generation (the last major one was in 1991 to celebrate the US victory in Operation Desert Storm).

The parade begins at 6:00 pm and will end at 9:30 pm, with fireworks to follow. That will delay over 100 flights, though carriers may be adjusting schedules in the following week to avoid takeoffs and landings during that period. View From The Wing notes some southbound departures may be released after 8:45 pm if winds cooperate.

A banner on the DCA website reads:

To accommodate aircraft flyovers along the parade route, followed by a fireworks display, the Federal Aviation Administration is expected to suspend airline operations at DCA — affecting scheduled flights.

The parade, which is expected to cost up to $45 million, has long been a fixation of President Trump. It will include military flyovers, including more than 150 helicopters (64 Apaches, 60 Black Hawks, and 47 Chinooks). Starting near the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, the parade will proceed across the Memorial Bridge, circle the Lincoln Memorial, and continue along Constitution Avenue NW between 15th and 23rd Streets.

Approximately 6,600 soldiers and 150 military vehicles (including M1A1 Abrams tanks, Strykers, and Paladin artillery) will take part. President Trump will hold a “reenlistment ceremony” for 250 soldiers.

Russia (and the former Soviet Union) may be the best known for its military parades, but France does them as well on Bastille Day in July.

My own feeling is that tanks in the streets should be reserved for national emergencies only and the Posse Comitatus Act, now under threat, is one of the most important safeguards of liberty and the separation of powers.

CONCLUSION

If your travel plans include DCA next Saturday, June 14, 2025, be aware that you might face delays or cancellations, especially in the evening, thanks to a military parade. I’d recommend avoiding DCA altogether next weekend because road closures and traffic snarls will likely make journeys into the District or Maryland quite tedious.

Unreasonable military parades or marches are a lot of trouble and bother both for the troops and everyone else .

A meaningful military ceremony is a salute of respect for the fallen , with the unit flag dipped , and the national flag held high .

As retired military, who proudly served in many parades recognizing fallen military and key holidays in our country’s past, I am surely disappointed that this is happening = just for Trump and his birthday. How far this country’s leadership has fallen in just a few months. Mussolini would be proud……..

So, not for President Trump’s birthday? It’s for the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army? Your headline is just a little misleading, intentionally, I assume. Kind of nasty and dishonest. It reflects poorly on you while I think your intent was to reflect poorly on the president.

Market back up again today, jobs numbers are great. NOTHING Trump is doing is hurting any of your readers. Bottom line is everyone of us will be worth more at the end of 2025 than we were on January 1st. And anyone that isn’t can only blame their own laziness and life choices.

        Just simple facts.

And I really doubt any of us really care if some illegals are sent back to where they came from. Or if some dirty potential terrorists from certain counties aren’t welcomed here.

Trump is a master of inserting himself into grey areas, where he has plausible deniability of wrongdoing. If you don’t like him, you’ll rule one way, his supporters will rule the other. I think the nuanced take of calling it a grey area is the correct answer.

Better if the $45 million would be given to a fund for the thousands laid off by DOGE….

I’m fully in support of this. June 14th, while an important day for the Army, is a more important day for our country. Our Leader, the greatest president in the history of leaders (both elected and not-elected) is turning 79. There’s no reason anybody should be traveling that night anyway. I’ll be doing the AMERICAN thing and attending a church service (not a ‘mass’) then going home and watching this great parade to honor our LEADER on Fox News. Sometimes FREEDOM means the airport is closed. Deal with it!

The Army has exceeded its recruiting quota early and other branch’s report much higher recruitment as well, the best since 2014. This is what happened when young men and women have leaders who earn respect and they are willing to make service sacrifices for. An Administration that values their service, doesn’t make it a DEI experiment or virtue signaling.
Your photo of a Soviet parade demonstrates your lack of respect and lack of intelligence.

So what you’re saying is that the Army DOES NOT NEED a recruiting event?

I ask because you could almost argue that spending $45 million like this for recruiting marketing might make at least some sense, but if if recruiting is on or above goals, then the spending is wasteful government spending.

So sad to see it looks like Pee-u-tin, Kim Jong Un & Xi Jinping won’t be there in solidarity. But happy to see the re-enlistment of 250 brave men & women. I’m sure they’re the ones that were recently kick-ed out of the military dishonorably by our commander in chief.

The Trump regime doing Putin & North Korea proud with Trump’s own birthday/military parades gift to himself (among all the other gifts).
