Earlier this month, Turkmenistan Airlines was banned from European Union airspace after the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) deemed the carrier unsafe. Now the airline has turned to Lufthansa for help.
The Lufthansa brand has many hats; far more than just an airline. One division is called Lufthansa Consulting and advises other airlines and airports on best practices. Turkmenistan Airlines has enlisted the help of Lufthansa Consulting to audit its practices and devise a plan for how it can win EASA approval back.
Commenting on its new client, Lufthansa Consulting outlined its plan:
The airline recently experienced difficulties in satisfying relevant EASA requirements and is taking matters in this regard very seriously. The operator is aware of the need for immediate action and has therefore decided to cooperate with the German aviation experts to review the existing situation and develop a corrective action plan.
In addition to its domestic route network, Turkmenistan Airlines is still serving:
- Ankara
- Amritsar, India
- Bangkok
- Beijing
- Delhi
- Dubai
- Isanbul
- Moscow
- St Petersburg
- Yerevan
Flights to Frankfurt, London, and Paris remain on hold. Birmingham seems to be operating through a contracted carrier.
CONCLUSION
Turkmenistan Airlines is doing the smart thing. Not only will Lufthansa help Turkmenistan regain regulatory approval, it will probably help do it faster.

Per Flightradar24, the London and Birmingham flights both seem to be operating via leased A330s from Wamos Air.

Unrelated to this post but do you know about UA possibly blocking NH award space in addition to the already known SQ, TG, & TP space? I cannot find NH space anywhere on UA’s site and I’m reading other people are experiencing the same issue. If you hear anything from your connects at UA please let us know. Thanks!
