Twas the Night Before Christmas: 2016 Edition

Matthew Klint Posted onDecember 25, 2016 3 Comments

You’ll have to indulge me here. I tried this three years ago in a poem entitled The Night Before Christmas: United Airlines Edition but this one is a bit more personal. I like poetry, especially rhyming couplets, and figured I’d give it another try tonight. I’m posting it late to minimize the number of views.

What spurred this? A very realistic “nightmare” I had last night about me flying to Singapore and Garuda Indonesia not honoring my held fare. So without further ado:

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house;
Not a creature was stirring except for for the mouse.
We call him little Augustine though mouse might be better;
He eats like a fiend in his cute navy sweater.
The stockings weren’t hung by the chimney with care;
Our boxes are still strewn about here and there.
Moving to a new home is such a disruption;
In fixing it up we’ve dealt with corruption.
But now it is done and we’re thankful for that;
It’s just that we don’t have a chair for our back.
The furniture will come, we just have to buy it;
But when is there time when I’m oft in a cockpit?
Here’s the strange thing that happened last night;
While laying in bed I awoke with a fright!
I was dreaming about Garuda canceling fares;
And awakened to find that I had lost some more hair.
How odd that a plane fare so far, far a way;
Would consume midnight dreams on such a great day.
But the only normal people are the ones you don’t know:
So before you now judge me take a sip of Merlot.
If St. Nick is coming I should wait up for him:
And ask him if I can hop on his sleigh ride to SIN.
A loving wife and little mouse sit waiting at home;
Wondering if Matthew will even phone.
Because chances are growing, hour by hour;
That Monday will be spent on a plane with no power.
Garuda in first class may not be all that;
But in my word of flying I like to lie-flat.
And from all that I’ve heard about Garuda’s great service;
It seems to skip this deal would be a disservice.
The minutes are ticketing the decision draws near;
Will I soon be flying off like a reindeer?

Ok, that’s enough poetry for another year at least (I know, I should stick to just travel writing). But if it not clear, I am leaning more and more toward ticketing my Garuda reservation. Oh my!
